Stephen A. Smith has more people tuning in each day, than the wnba has in a season.

Love him or hate him, more people watch Stephen A, than all of the WNBA combined. Watching a church-league softball game is more entertaining than the WNBA.

If they want more compensation, earn a bigger audience. It is that simple.

Being MVP of the WNBA is not worth 12MM/yr. No way the team would recoup that cost in revenue even if they won every year.

I actually enjoy Women's basketball and find Stephen A Smith incredibly annoying. The market does not agree with me.

Whoever gave him that contract obviously thinks he is a unique talent and that paying him that much will bring the company more profit than paying some nobody 30k would. Unfortunately (from the players perspective) the WNBA is operating at a loss (which means they are already overpaying the players) and anyone who doesn't want to play for the going rate can be easily replaced without much impact on market share.

This will change when all the dudes who get cut from the NBA start identifying as women and try out.

Steven A was extremely successful in helping ESPN meet its avg minority pay metrics. What an accomplishment. Being born black.

They don't work for the same employers and don't even do the same type of work. He has never suggested every single person get paid the exact same thing for every single possible job……

Apparently having bad takes is far more lucrative than playing bad basketball.

What he makes is not relevant. He doesn't play for the WNBA. He's paid by the NBA… which pulls in way more money than the WNBA.

The WNBA seems to have less value than the NBA to people who want to watch basketball as entertainment. Hence the lower pay. Sorry your teams are poor.
