Do they not verify identities when signing up and then follow it up with a solid # count all the way through?
Nope. They just ask you if you're a registered voter in Los Angeles County.
Then, you sign the petition and put your name and address.
Honestly, I can't believe they checked any of it.
I didn't have to show ID to vote.
I only had to show ID to register to vote.
And a discrepancy on address could be something like a situation I had with my address.
Years ago, I lived in Apartment #20 at a certain street address.
After I bought my house, they somehow took my new address and added Apartment #20 to it.
They didn't really care that my address was wrong and let me vote either way.
But, since my address was technically wrong and I was signing to verify that everything was correct, I disputed it and had to vote provisionally in 2020.
When I voted in the Gubernatorial recall and in the primaries, my address now shows correctly in the voting system.
tldr; - It could be common to have the wrong address or have a mistake in your address
