Yep, they're pushing a lot of folks who would have supported DeSantis in a primary right back into the Trump camp. DC needs to be dismantled. It's got to be the #1 priority of the next Republican administration and I'm beginning to think that a pissed off Trump is the best shot we have.

A judge had to be convinced "it was legit and based on serious law enforcement purposes." It was a search warrant for retrieving classified documents not incriminating documents. They left with 15 boxes of docuuments.

My take is (FWIW) that this, like the Jan 6 "investigation' is about optics. It doesn't matter if they "find" anything or not (although if they do it will be played as if it is treasonous). What matters is that they continue to paint trump as an evil person to attempt to erode his support and inflame his detractors. I don't care about trump at all - hope the republicans find someone better. But the continued use of government branches/entities/employees by leaders from either political party to forward a political agenda is worrisome.

While I also prefer Desantis, all the legal and political maneuvering Trump did was simply an effort to exhaust all possible legal options. Just because they were increasingly unlikely and desperate doesn't mean they become unlawful. Very specific actions have to be taken with demonstrable intent to be unlawful, and disputing the legal validity of aspects of an unusual election that is not yet certified is not unlawful.

Remember when they threw Algore and then Hillary into prison when they questioned their election results? Me either.

Contested electors and dueling elector slates has been done in the past and not resulted in a conspiracy being declared. The precedent was that the legal process worked out as it should and the states and then congress certifies the valid electors once the legal dispute is sorted out.

It's not like someone kidnapped or assassinated the valid elector slates and replaced them with impostors that were fraudulently able to infiltrate the voting process. It's more like there was a belief that certain state processes were not lawfully followed or were being legally contested so an alternative slate of electors were nominated as part of that process of contesting the legitimacy of the outcome, probably more as a political protest than to actually suggest they should replace the actual electors.

There's a big difference between legal and political wrangling and gathering an armed force in a plausible effort to depose the existing government through threat of or use of violence.

When were there "competing electors" that were not selected any any state authority but represented as being legitimate as was the case in 2020? What other year?

There is an argument to be made that Trump declaring before the Nov. elections would not help GOP candidates. I'm not sure I agree with it, but I've seen it made a few times by respectable folks, imho.
