I've got a better compromise.

Each state makes it's own Constitutionally-compliant laws in accordance to the will of its populace and all federal laws that are not Constitutionally-compliant get struck down/ignored.

Why don't we follow the 10th Amendment and leave it up to the states?

Get the government out of "marriage" entirely and separate legal "unions" for the purpose of taxes, health care, estates, and so forth from "marriate."

You want one, fill out the paperwork at the courthouse. You want the other, visit your minister. You can do one with or without the other.

How bout getting the federal govt out of marriage and have it strictly be a religious right commitment?

That would be a good compromise. Govt has no business in marriage period

Disagree. Marriage is a public institution and should have legal binding. The real issue is no fault divorce. Make it more difficult to tear apart a family. The culture doesn't even understand what marriage is anymore, so it's not surprising that the government is bad at regulating it.

'Marriage' used to be the official union between man & woman. The left has co-opted it now so it no longer means what it used to.

Same with 'vaccine'. And 'discrimination'. And 'racist'. And 'equal rights'...
