That would be good, unless Biden also killed 20+ children in the strike like his predecessor.....

Not sure Biden should be drawing the public's attention to his record in Afghanistan.

Question: From where would they be launching a drone strike? Inside Afghanistan?

AQ is not an existential threat.

Biden and his party on the other hand, well....

The fact that this guy felt comfortable showing up in Kabul in the first place tells you all you need to know about the current state of Afghanistan.

Could have also been an under the table deal with Taliban to release some funds. Would not shock me if we were using some of the aid funds as bounty rewards for HVTs.

They probably killed him while he was leaving his base of operations at Bagram air base in his Humvee after stocking up on some new weapons and ammo.

Al-Zawahiri was neck deep in 9/11.

Hopefully he took a Hellfire missile right up his ass.

Qatar? Long flight if so.

Not sure the other 'stans are still letting us use their bases but it is possible.

If the Taliban is giving up terrorist assets, I'd call that a win.

But how long of a flight is that? How long to reach the target? Would still need real time intel that he was still there.

Global Hawk is unarmed, but we have other long range drones which are armed.

The new Pakistani leadership made it clear they want better ties with the US, but not sure how much progress has been made. If this strike is confirmed to originate in Pakistan it will put a lot of public scrutiny on their government.

They surround themselves with innocents on purpose. Their family and friends know why they surround themselves with innocents. Their family and friends know what's at risk with a PID. Their family and friends are as much as fault as whatever POS takes a hellfire to the face.

After reading about them further, seems Global Hawk is unarmed and used for surveillance only.

So not a Global Hawk.

However, the new Avenger has a range of over 15K miles.

Perhaps, but this kill is nothing but an opportunity for Biden to crow. It doesn't make us any safer. It doesn't mitigate the threat of terrorism a single iota. The CIA shouldnt be droning anyone imo. If they want to send the military like they did with Bin Laden fine, but not the CIA.

While that does happen, there have been multiple instances of bad intelligence or operational error leading to US strikes against actual civilian targets. The one in Kabul last year was widely publicized but they are mostly covered up.

CIA had Bin Laden targeted with the help of Massoud in the late 90s. Clinton wouldn't pull the trigger on the hit.

Would rather CIA field agents do this than committing troops to it if possible.

I'm totally fine with this, as making this guy pay with his life without putting boots on the ground is great. Of course Biden will crow, but whatever. Even if he's not an effective terrorist leader anymore, he deserves to be dead.

Jennifer Griffin suggested the drone came from the Middle East, so Qattar is most likely. But who was giving the live intel?

Taliban and AQ are not always on the same page, especially if another attack was being planned. It was 20 years we were there the last time. Another attack on American interests originating again from Afghanistan would not be in the Taliban's interests. Stranger things have happened.
