If either is sufficiently threatened all bets are off. Could be that the party is about to make him walk the plank for their cratering economy. Going to war forces them to get behind.

Of course, it is a hell of a gamble. The Ukrainians with our tactics and mostly hand me downs have stood up to Russia. The PLA has no active leaders with combat experience and Russian knockoff gear.

If Biden had any balls, he would tell the Chinese that they did not have the guts or the fortitude to blow up Pelosi's plane and that they are just a bunch of ******* and blowhards and their threats mean nothing and that they are a paper tiger.

Xi appears unhinged, like NK's little dictator. You can bet the US is positioning assets, some of which aren't publicly disclosed, to ensure China doesn't do anything rash. The only fly in the ointment is FJB, if he cancels Pelosi's Taiwan visit or interferes with our defensive posture, on behalf of China. Does Xi know something we don't? Because he would look very weak if the trip happens now, and he absolutely cannot afford to look weak.

Seapower is absolutely essential for survival as a nation.

Any superpower must dominate the sea.

You got to be able to secure a port.

You got to secure your merchant fleet.

And you also got to be able to project force.

And in order to do that, you need a huge supply and logistics fleet.

You don't have that and you back to life in the mid 1800s

I don't think the US has the capacity to blockade Chinese access to the oceans. Realistically, you're talking about blockading China, Vietnam, North Korea, and Myanmar. Add Russia into the mix because they would certainly help China out if it were in opposition to a US blockade.

Who even knows what kind of weapons we got now that can take out a surface ship.

You got to remember that the F-117 was just a myth until Gulf War 1.

Maybe we got rods from god that can f-up a whole fleet at once.

Who knows what the deal is.

The saddest thing is that we are the baddest dude on the block even as weakened as our military has become.

Russia and China were thought to be 2 and 3.

And we can see how strong Russia has been in Ukraine.

China has been strategically positioning itself to win a confrontation with the US for 20 years.

They have close to a monopoly (85% control) of a crucial irreplaceable component to rocket fuel. Meaning in a confrontation once we use up our supply we are ****ed.

They have slowly been buying up our food processing centers and farms, meaning that if they anticipate a war, all they need to do first to starve us is burn down/poison all the farm and food related things they own before hitting us.

The penetration they have into our telecomm is huge as is their penetration into our electrical grid and water supply infrastructure.

If it comes to a conflict they will undoubtedly unleash all of the civilian penetration they have achieved in order to cripple the populace indirectly without having to even put troops on the ground or fire a missile at the mainland.

We still have air power and submarines, even if their missiles would work as advertised. Nobody else would want their merchant ships at risk, so food imports into China largely would be halted. They could try to invade Vietnam or some neighbor overland to get more, but they'd do more harm than good.

You don't even have to be completely successful, just largely so. They import a substantial majority of their food. They could never get enough over land routes alone. They know it with certainty. Even the threat to them would be dire. That is why they keep trying to claim a large ocean exclusion zone and build artificial islands. Without ocean transportation they are doomed to internal chaos in short order.

The US doesn't need to post up in the South China Sea to collapse China. They post up in the Indian Ocean and outside the Straight of Hormuz. Same result, no capable Chinese defense.
