We have all seen hapless commuters beaten senseless in the blue states.
A July 2 shooting of two bandits by a commuter in Salt Lake City was just found to be justified by the DA.

" SALT LAKE CITY One man is dead and another is in critical condition after a shooting at a Utah Transit Authority TRAX station late Saturday night."

"According to UTA Spokesperson Carl Arky, the incident took place at the TRAX station located at 900 South 200 West, where officers found two victims, both males in their mid to late 20's, on the station's platform."

"One victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to an area hospital in critical condition."

The shooter stayed to talk to police, was observed on video backing up about 30-40 feet before pulling the trigger on both as they approached him threatening violence.

Yeah, we're a constitutional carry state.

I know what they meant, but this reads like he shot at thepolice.

You are significantly more likely to die in a car wreck in Texas than be a victim of violence on the subway in NYC.

Am I more likely to be mugged on NYC mass transit than in my car in Texas?

But I only need to be threatened by the wrong criminal element once to die…right?

I mean I have only been in two low-speed fender benders in 59 years and 700,000 miles driven by me alone, but I still wear seat belts on the off chance I'm in a horrible accident.

I have the ability (actually a mandate) to protect myself from injury in a car accident with seat belts but in some cities I don't have a right to defend myself if the wrong criminal element wants to take my life.

That seems a bit out of whack to me.

And statistics for the whole doesn't apply to the more dangerous lines, or time of day/night, whether I am traveling alone, a single female, or elderly couple.

That's true, however the number of felony assaults in the subway is similar to the number of traffic deaths in Houston per year.

Ridership is around 2,000,000? A day right now, not sure the number of people driving in Houston per day.

A lot of those are probably armed. Discourages misbehavior, you know.

One is an accident and unfortunate. The other was a decision by a person or persons to voluntarily hurt someone else for some form of gain.

A NYC resident is significantly more likely to die from violence on a NYC subway than any child in America is to die of a school shooting. Your point?

My point is that the subway is pretty safe, and your analogy is bad because if you omit the word school, it's the number one cause of death for children.

I'm seeing accidents as the number one cause for all age groups.

My scariest incident on the subway was probably the time a guy followed me off the train and grabbed me but thankfully I was in a crowded area so I ran towards more people. So yeah maybe I wasn't officially a victim but it sure wasn't a great situation to encounter. These plus daily incidents of being screamed at by crazies don't make your stats, but it's certainly a more tense environment then the average person's daily commute.

Women have no way to protect themselves in NYC. You can't even easily buy pepper spray without paying a premium, and part of your purchase includes signing a form that's logged with the city. As if people purchasing pepper spray are the problems that need to be tracked.

Once I moved back to TX, I obtained my LTC.
