LOL that wasn't directed at his parenting. It was directed at his governing of Mayberry
No, I don't care what CNN or MSNBC said this time

That person hasn't watched every single episode. Very poor take. There were plenty of nuclear families, usually seen coming out of church on Sunday morning.

The people coming out of the mountain were just as likely to be shrewd as buffoons.

One famous episode Andy convinces the farmer to let his daughter get dolled up so as to attract a good man and start a family.

Gun control? Laughable, that sentiment didn't exist in the left back then to any extent. He didn't carry a gun when he didn't need to, and did when he needed to. Never a whisper of negativity about guns.

Out after 10 0'clock? Laughable, there were inumerable references to 8 0'clock being late, and staying up "clear until 10!".

That article, and others like it are revisionist history written by people with a bone to pick w/ Andy Griffith and some wild political accusations later in his life.

In short, that entire article is balderdash.

If there is ANY knock, it's that Andy would lie at the drop of a hat to get done what he wanted done.

See this clip making the rounds on some social media. Wise words the modern world should take heed of
The ending of that is good as well. He gets himself arrested for stealing a purse so Opie would lose respect for him and stop idolizing his lifestyle. After Opie leaves Andy mentions he knows that purse was thrown away and not stolen. He releases him as a they hear a train passing by.

I understand that shortly after that kind gesture, Jed Clampett went on do pretty well in the oil business. Even got himself a cement pond.

I was an Ellie Walker fan as a youngster. She was a cute one. Hated that she was in so few episodes.

If we had more John Wayne's we'd be speaking Japanese today. Thank Heaven for the Greatest Generation (of which he's not included) that saved freedom.

You think a 34-year-old with four children should have picked up a rifle?

Irrespective of any political agenda hidden in the Andy Griffith Show, don't forget that Andy Griffith the man urged the audience watching Matlock and TAGS reruns to vote for Obama. Andy loved him some socialized healthcare.

Andy was a Democrat political shill going back to the 80s when his endorsement of Mike Easley for governor pulled him ahead at the last minute for an upset win in what was referred to as the Mayberry Miracle. He also made commercials for Bev Perdue. For anyone who is puzzled about how North Carolina went from being representedby Jesse Helms to John Edwards (theoriginal Good Hair) the answer is that turning NC back to Democrat control was due in no small part to the folksy pitch man from Mount Airy. Griffith may have been a great entertainer and pitch man but politically he was a bad cracker.

A bunch of them did.

My opinion of him was formed listening to my Marine dad who survived Tarawa, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Right or wrong he wasn't a fan.

Actually he makes some good points, and knowing what we now know about hollywood back then, it may well have been, frankly probably was, intentional.

It's easy to tell who's never seen more than episode or two of the show from comments like yours.
TAGS was absolutely wholesome and pro-American.
