Evidently they're tied with us at #68 on us news

Now I didn't know much about the internets in college but I always thought they were lower than us

Was I drunk 100% of the time instead of 75%

Most of their grads view it as Harvard of the south. Not joking

No, they are not on our level. Tons of kids there who couldn't get into our school. Also silly that we are ranked #68. The rankings are complete horsesh**.

TAMU used to be better. Since it has become a diploma mill in recent years, not so much.

Why are you guys surprised we dropped to 68 after increasing enrollment to such an insane level?

The moves made over the last two decades haven't been about improving academics; they've been about pumping out more graduates.

They are not a major research university, so no.

Not being able to get into A&M means nothing. Tons of smart, talented kids are not admitted due to admissions policies.

My sister just started I-Day and plebe summer at the Naval Academy two weeks ago.

She got wait-listed and rejected from the Air Force Academy and wait-listed and accepted at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis without prep school.

Rejected at A&M and offered a 75% scholarship to OU Business.

The rankings are absolute horse **** and I wouldn't hire a SMU grad over an A&M one without a significant paycut.

i was against being a diploma mill then NIL happened and we got the best recruiting class ever.

Now we are sucking so I'm like "what is the point of being a diploma mill if we're getting our ass kicked?"

Industry self-ranking is a shaping play. What's the "right" metric, anyhow? Mean salary 5 years after grad? % of attendees who get a $60k+ job withing a year of departure? Student debt : income ratio 5 years after final class attendance? Do you include those who got their MRS degrees and didn't enter the workforce? Do you include those who flunked out? What about # of workable (conservative) world views produced?

Or... is it largely metric of party affiliation with some prejudices and bribes sprinkled in?

This is interesting. Many moons ago when I applied to the academies, West Point was available if you were decently smart, Air Force was highly competitive, and Navy might as well have been Yale. Has that changed?

US News rankings were exposed many years ago as being largely worthless. They are the last one I would use to gauge anything. At best, you could probably say they are directionally correct, but I would discount individual rankings.

I do think SMU has slowly improved over the years to some degree. They've invested quite a bit in that school. However, it would be dumb to say they are better than TAMU IMO.

[Disclosure: I have degrees from both.]

A lot more expensive, a lot smaller, but I've been working all over the world for 19 years and I never see SMU grads in the wild. I've found Aggies in all corners of the earth and all over the USA doing well for themselves, but never any smu grads. Granted, I don't find myself in DFW very often at all and we Ags can be easy to spot with the rings, plus more of us tend to drop into the oil patch. But still, what do a lot of smu grads do? Retail? The only one I kind of know is my wife's friend and she's a teacher. Oh, and the ex-CEO of a company I used to work for sent his deadbeat son there because he didn't get into sip or any of the California schools he wanted to attend, but he joined a frat, partied too hard, and dropped out.

Back 20 years ago we hovered in the 45-55 range on this list. SMUs ranking hasn't changed all that much. Ours did after we spent the 80s and 90s climbing the list. SMU has been in the 60-75 range during that time. So it's really A&M falling into their range than them climbing to ours.

Some of it has to do with the rankings being tied to selectivity in a 20 year period where we've gone from 40k students to 70k students.

A&M incoming Freshman class in August is bigger than all of SMUs undergraduate college. Almost as big as SMUs undergrad and grad schools combined.

Exactly. I do not agree with everything we have done and definitely hate the woke sh**…and I'm in the "not another dime" crowd. But from my real life work experience, we still pump out the best and most dependable workers, and I have even had several Baylor and Sip colleagues say pretty much the same thing.

This is actually true. I've read it with my own eyes in their school paper. And this was 15 years ago.

Just completely laughable considering that other small school in Houston not to mention Vanderbilt and others.

There is a law blog called Above The Law that started doing its own law school rankings that are weighted heavily on what happens to their graduates -- are they getting lawyer jobs, making good money, etc. It's interesting to see how the schools get shuffled around. Schools that seriously play the USNWR game that aren't top tier schools don't hold a candle to schools that pump out grads into big cities with lots of big firms.

How many Rice grads do you find in the wild outside of Houston?

Size plays a role, so maybe not a great metric.

In my experience, the undergrads largely stay around Dallas and are working in Finance. Banks, investment firms, hedge funds, etc.

I can at least say this after getting a MS there - if you think A&M has gone woke, if you had an SMU email you would think SMU is a 14 year old zhe/zher tiktok account

You explain how these very "objective" rankings, that are mostly based on liberal bull****, are done and then I'll address it.
