No mention of drop and cover. No mention of covering eyes. No mention of shielding skin. Just "dust" like the average citizen knows what dust will be radioactive.

And the likelihood that NYC will be a nuclear target? 100% because our enemies believe in attacking our cities.

If you drop a nuke in the middle of Manhattan, I don't think "drop and cover", "covering eyes", or "shielding skin" will do a lot to stop the fireball or pressure waves from ****ing a lot of **** up.

US Army Ordnance Center and School Chemical, Biological and Radiological Warfare disaster management course.

The pressure/blast waves from multiple air burst detonations will likely take out a lot of buildings, and we don't have a real world example of what this looks like with multiple warheads. NYC will be the last place on earth I would want to be in the event of a nuclear attack on the mainland US. HTH.

Edit: the silliness of this approach also ignores the magnitude of casualties: people with severe radiation burns, trauma from debris/over pressure from blast waves dying a slow death with almost zero prospects of living long. Saying "you got this" trivializes the most traumatic event imaginable: an event with almost no possibility of escape or expectation of survival.

Back in the 50s, Bert the Turtle told you to "duck and cover".

Problem is, with an Hbomb, NYC is toast. Literally.

You don't have to be. He's relaying info from the idiots in NYC. And yes, you should still duck and cover, even if it increases your chances of survival by a tiny bit.

I'm the beneficiary of several US Army Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical courses as well.

Very odd timing. I can see them chirping about this when the UKE conflict kicked off, but doing it now feels off.

Almost feels like the always coincidental live shooter planning exercise that happens weeks ahead of an actual event or the pre-pandemic gameplanning that preceded the Covid release.

It's funny how Russia is the bad guy now. I remember barry sotero mocking Romney in one of the debates when he dared mention Russia as an evil actor. I guess the bad guy is whoever serves the left's purposes best at the time.

We did all that duck and cover stuff during the Cuban missile crisis when I was in elementary school. Had a special bell ring for missiles so we wouldn't confuse missile attack with fire drills. We were pretty ticked off because we wanted to go outside and see the explosion.

Elmendorf AFB school, early 80s. Same here. Because particle board and 1/16" steel keeps eleventy -degree fireballs away.

Funny timing. Netflix or Prime offered up War Games recently.

I went to Jr HS in Philadelphia in a 5 story downtown school and for our nuclear drills we had to go down to the basement and sit along the walls. The boys sat in front of the girls which in retrospect seems odd since there's really no way we could have known the difference with the technology we had available at that time. Even at 11 it struck me as dumb because all we did in going to the basement was make sure we were under the entire building instead of just the floors that were above us when it happened.

Then the Cold War ended and nuclear drills were replaced with active shooter drills. Unfortunately we keep electing Cold War politicians desperate to keep the dream alive and they're determined to go out with a bang. Hopefully Biden is the last boomer to occupy the White House and we can see what becomes of all of this with younger leadership that didn't come up in an era where it took an all powerful US government to prevent global thermonuclear conflict. This is probably a bigger threat now than at any point since the wall came down just because it's hard to envision Russia and China suffering their demographic collapses peacefully.

Remember when Trump was President and the Left was worried about the likelihood of a nuclear event happening? Surely NYC sent out these messages daily while he was in office.
