Corey is a great guy and advocate for school choice. I've had the pleasure of speaking with him a couple times. This is a giant FU to teachers unions and status quo school districts and a sign of what's to come.

We need it nation-wide, especially in the dem controlled urban areas that is utterly failing those who want to better themselves through education.

The school system's response to covid was it's own downfall.
Public school is less and less about educating children but is instead a works program for over-educated adults

Exactly. With Wheelie we ceded our conservative leadership position, opting for a more moderate tact which I fear will ultimately lead to Texas becoming a moderate state.

good point.

boards and admins cannot be bothered. people's money and choice be damned.

Abbott will get the blame, even though he's an advocate for school choice, but I don't know if the legislature has the support for it. hope I'm wrong.

So you have a school that can accomodate 500 students but it's the highest achieving school in the area. So now you're gonna say everyone in the area that wants to come there has the right to do that? You're going to impose a bunch of kids regardless of behavior on a school that has worked hard to do the right things and create tbe environment they enjoy? You're going to say that kids with behavior problems are entitled to go to that school and disrupt the whole culture there? You're going to say a school that can house 500 students now has it take these additional 200 students? How is that fair to the local school district? How is that fair to people that have worked hard to create the atmosphere and culture in that local school district? Keep your kid in your own district, and if you don't like how things are, get involved. Run for school board and change things.

Oh no! Bus routes will be less efficient in crappy jurisdictions as parents opt to drive their kids to a neighboring school! Bad schools will be able to focus on their reduced number of kids, and good schools will reach max capacity (or figure out how to add capacity). The horror!

Boo freaking hoo. They can suck it up and figure it out. School and district admin is the biggest racket there is right now in education. Districts are too damn top heavy. People making six figures just running around trying to think **** up to justify their own existence. Don't feel sorry for them at all.

You are casting a very broad net. Admin at a school is an incredibly challenging job. Especially smaller schools with limited funds, staff, tax base and infrastructure.

This is great. Let it be in other states as well. Especially after seeing what the National Education Association wants to indoctrinate.

More private schools will pop up and maybe rent the unused public school buildings. Think about a multi-tenant building. I could see 3-4 high schools operating out of an old high school building. Each with their own curriculum.

Public schools that meet the needs of the community will have little change.

here is your answer, directly from fox news. " Private school choice, or providing all families with alternatives to the public schools they're zoned for"

also, i don't understand the anger in your post. I'm just saying this has the potential affect the schools that have done things right in a negative way.

What will happen with this is the ADA money for student will follow that student and district boundaries will not matter. Once again, that's what this sentence means: " Private school choice, or providing all families with alternatives to the public schools they're zoned for". The district will have to take a student no matter what. Or it could quickly morph into that. Then you have a troublemaker at a neighboring school that is suddenly you problem because they chose to come to your school. There are unintended consequences to this.

Let's just assume what you are saying is true. Isn't this the point though? It will shine a glaring light on which schools are failures and which schools are successful. Exactly what the teachers unions and education mafia don't want.

As far as getting involved, parents have done that and have been called terrorists by the government and their allies. Time to try the tough love method and force wholesale change across the spectrum.

If you are too dense to understand what this means, I can't help you. keep this in mind. how will you feel about paying for a bond to have the addition of 200 students outside of your district that are now going to your school?

again "Private school choice, or providing all families with alternatives to the public schools they're zoned for". this is not a headline. It is in the body of the article. This is saying the alternative they're referring to Making an avenue for that kid to pick which school district they want to go to. That's what it's saying.

Sounds like the state's education boards problem. They've brought it upon themselves with years upon years upon years of zero accountability in the districts that don't perform.

Why should parents have to keep their kids in ****ty districts? If the district loses a bunch of their students, the dollars are following the kids now. It will provide the school the parents chose with the money.
