"This criminal provision arrests for which are based on an officer's subjective perception of whether a person is 'acting like' or 'looks like' they intend to engage in sex work results in the disproportionate criminalization of trans, Black and Brown women, and perpetuates violence toward sex workers," the press release from the governor's office said.

Prostitution should be legal everywhere. Business between two consenting adults should never be regulated by the government.

Should we allow prostitutes to loiter near schools and churches? Should you be allowed to publicly solicit sexual business?

Seems like a pretty stupid idea to me.

Yes prostitution should be legal everywhere. That doesn't make it moral or smart behavior to engage in. I don't care where they congregate. There are a lot of stupid things people do that are perfectly legal. They can loiter anywhere any other adult can as far as I cam concerned. Probably not going to be able drum up a lot up business in front of an elementary school.

This is street walking, not a zoned brothel. Street walking should never be legal.

Unless one of the teachers is active on Tik-tok and takes her class to watch sex workers show how it done. Oh wait, maybe they can have live demonstrations in front of the class! Or maybe the teacher moonlights and wants to discuss the finer points of second job.

Now days, you just never know.

Most prostitution includes a 3rd party (pimp) who assures both sides are "consensual" whether one side want to be or not.

You should check out some of Hunter Biden's videos... he is right up your alley.

Would they need a pimp if it were legal, protected, and out in the open?

If two consenting adult men bet $10,000 each to have a knife fight to the death in the privacy of their own bedroom, should the government have nothing to say about this?

An observation:

With the legalization of marijuana in California there appears to be an increased acceptance in a culture of drug use.

I say that, because I am in a position of viewing mental health throughout the 58 counties in California, a vast and diverse state.

And what I have seen is adults and adolescents (for whom it is still illegal to use) with drug problems and receiving mental health care, but many treating therapists and even some psychiatrists while recording the extent of drug use in an assessment, never perceive it as a problem in which case it then goes untreated and becomes exacerbated.

A young social worker, in one case, viewed a teenagers daily use of marijuana as acceptable, but she was in disagreement with the older psychiatrist, who diagnosed the teen with a cannabis use disorder, believing him to be "old school."

I have seen one therapist comment that while her patient was high she was still receptive to treatment.

One individual's recorded mental health symptoms were no different than what you would find in a methamphetamine addict, which she was, but the drug use was never addressed. How are you determining these diagnoses, for which you are then providing both psychotherapy and pharmacological treatment, when someone is using daily, multiple times a day?

When we make publicly sanctioned self-indulgence and sensualism the highest good there will be unforeseen consequences that go beyond whatever some people think should happen.

Except that most of the women involved in prostitution are victims and caught up in a practice they can barely escape.

The "2 consenting adults" is myth.

Ministries like the Net in Fort Worth with compassionate citizens and Churches are bridging the gap and are being a lifeline to the women (truly victims) and reaching out to the men that are requiring paid sex.

Looking at Europe, I don't think legalization reduces the sex slave stuff either way. It's about the same from what I recall. But I think that legalization at least gives the victims more leeway to report the aholes in the world.

You would really need to require legal brothels zoned with irregular health code inspections and require they are all full time employees for it to ever be close to a non-shady industry. Otherwisethe worst people in society will continue to use and dispose of girls, regardless of whether it's legal or not.

There still needs to be a legal avenue to prosecute for exploitation of women who may not be so "consenting". If both parties truly are consenting that's different. But I won't be advocating for it.
