Carnival is for entry level.
The few Royal Caribbean cruises have been great.
If you really need to unplug, turn your phone off, rest and get away, they are wonderful.
You can read a book on deck, get a drink, take a nap.

Disney Cruise Lines is a good choice, even if you don't have kids. There's an adults only section of the ship so no interactions with little ones if you prefer to avoid them.

I live in fear that the Republicans are going to blow a great -- maybe the last -- opportunity to begin turning the disaster under which we are governed (which without major changes will just become worse, as is in process presently) around. In that case this kind of thing will become a common occurrence and the msm will finally be happy.

So far as the '24 presidential election is concerned, Trump or DeSantis needs to step back. Now. Reference what the "Bullmoose" Party and Teddy Roosevelt did to the Republicans -- they split the Republican Party and handed the Democrats a presidential election. Don't think history can't or won't, if ego and stupidity again combine, repeat itself. Though in truth, that combined with it's electorate has been a great asset to the Democrats. But then, the Democrats are striving to overthrow the country rather than save it.

Normally I would say that politics is downsteam of culture, not the other way around. But I think certain demographics can be better led to have better quality of lives, and that includes being led by politicians. Assuming people in these demos would think random brawls like this is a poor quality of life.

Did a "behind the fun" tour on Carnival once - a great 'excursion' that they don't advertise. I highly recommend it. One of the things they show you is the brig - an incredibly tiny cell, deep in the bowels of the ship. Being locked in there would drive me insane - truly. They should have made use of that feature.

Being below water line would freak me out...

My wife and I stick with Viking whether it's a European river cruise or an ocean cruise. Might be doing an American Cruise Lines gig on the Snake River, Columbia River, etc, etc. Not sure yet. Last winter did a Christmas Danube cruise with Viking and in June of next year we are doing a Rhine river cruise on Viking. Have done a Mediterranean cruise with them also. Fun stuff, first class all the way around, food is better than average and the restaurants are open 24 hours on river and ocean cruises. Kids are discouraged on all vessels. Great group of people running the Viking organization. You dont have to worry about crap like the OP showed.

no I don't want to be trapped on a boat designed to have one eat a bunch of food on vacation. I can go down to golden corral for 5 hours if I get the itch for it. And no being herded into port for a very limited time is not much consolation.

Generally, I want to be able to go to a beach, not be claustrophobic and totally relax for a week.

Cruise lines are all based out of small countries that pretty much craft their laws to protect them. It gives them no legal liability in international waters. They decide not to stop at any ports. You can't do anything. They decide you are off the boat. Find your own way home. If people truly knew the situation, they would never step foot on one of those boats.
