As an Army 2LT Plt Ldr in 1976 I experienced this demographic up close and personal. Took ~6 years to recover and Reagan to bring the Army out of that quagmire. Carter was better than today's current WH occupant. But not by much.

Yup. Carters army was terrible. I was S-4 for the Transfer Point company at Ft Jackson. The Army was kicking the recruits out left and right- some bsc, most Puerto Rican and couldn't speak English.

My son got his Army commission at A&M in 2013. He said it felt like they spent as much time with training for the "woke" stuff as they did for combat readiness. He started serving under Obama as CIC so that was to be expected, but he said it didn't get much better under Trump. He had enough and got out of the Army as soon as his minimum commitment was up in 2017. I can't imagine how awful it must be by now.
