It's more than just not wanting to be judged, which is true. They also want whatever negative activity they are engaged in to be validated. To be judged means that there is still some line drawn by which to measure judgement. They want no line at all.MouthBQ98 said:
Yes, they don't want to be judged, so they want to bully you into not judging them with the power of government authority as much as they can.

This is a pretty easy one for a Lib to counter. All they have to do is point out that there are anti-abortion laws being triggered in red states. So there is some degree of control trying to be put in place, they aren't entirely free to do whatever they want.
It's not perfect. That said the argument about abortion is not about what you are doing to yourself, it is about what you are doing to the baby. Same with grooming. You can do whatever freaky crap you want but you can't do it with a child who by definition can't consent. That actually illustrates the point. One side looks at the rights of each individual, the other assumes that their own actions are more important than those that they impact if they are a dependent or not yet born.rgag12 said:aggie93 said:

Notice the pivot? Tanya'esque, really. Was beat on the initial counter so jumped to a different one. Will jump again once that one gets beat.agracer said:Nice straw-man.Actual Talking Thermos said:

Do you actually have the examples I asked about?
Also, in regards to your straw-man, in case you missed it, it's 2022, not 1540. The CC hasn't persecuted anyone in the manner you describe for a long time.
In fact, the Church has reformed in many ways to assist it's members work through difficult times where they did not 50-years ago (like Divorce, people who have had abortions, etc.).
You could even say they have liberalized and found a different niche in a far more secular world.agracer said:Nice straw-man.Actual Talking Thermos said:

I am the last person to defend Catholics and their hypocrisy, but was this sarcasm of a statement pointing at recent events or are you referring to actions from eons ago?Quote:

If you have never encountered a Christian advocating for outlawing (for example) abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage, adultery, sex toys, fornication, sodomy, sex education, contraception, divorce, pornography, sex work, or material deemed obscene/blasphemous on the basis of biblical morality, you clearly live in one of our state's many majestic caverns.aggiebrad94 said:I've been a member of a conservative Baptist church for over 40 years and I have never once heard another Christian say what you just did.Actual Talking Thermos said:Uh, many Christians, including a number on this very forum, definitely advocate that people should be prohibited by law from doing various relevant values of X.aggie93 said:
