His assessment of Trump is a little overblown, but he makes some valid points. Piers is kind of an odd duck.

lol I like how the highlight interview in Piers' overview of DeSantis' education is a statement from his first grade teacher

'He was bright… very, very attentive,' Dee Centinaro, DeSantis' first-grade teacher, told the Miami Herald. 'I knew he would do his work, I knew he would pay attention, and I knew I could trust him.'

I somehow didn't know he was a veteran.

Overthinking it, I know....but I'd love to see Trump draw fire bigly until the last possible second and then see the nomination go to Desantis.

Trump was NOT HILLARY. That's it.

DeSantis has a chance to win and be Conservative, and the GOP establishment will have a much harder time being RINO with him in, which is half the current battle.

He'd be a great president - much more effective than Trump.

Would Trump be willing to do the right thing and eat a depression on his watch to fix the economy long term? Based on his first term the answer is hell no. He nominated Powell. He demanded Powell lower interest rates. There is no reason to think that inflation would be any better after Trump 2.0 than Biden. Then he'd only have one term left and that would sabotage whoever runs after (likely DeSantis).

Not to mention if Trump were to win 2024, he would be almost 79 years old on inauguration day and 83 on his last day.

DeSantis is Trump at debate #2. Problem is Trump could not sustain that and it's just the way DeSantis is every day. He's a stone cold killer.

This is just not true. If Desantis gets the nomination, he will be "literally Hitler" just like Trump. The concerned moderates will fall for the irrelevant tabloid crap just like they did with Trump. Anyone that's paid attention to Desantis at all knows he has a very combative style of politics, just like Trump. He's just more eloquent and calculated.

If you would vote for Desantis but not Trump, you just shouldn't be voting. People that vote for personality over policy are the most useless voters.

It is true that Desantis would be significantly more effective than Trump. And anyone who doesn't think a politician's personality affects how they pursue policy…probably shouldn't be voting. Desantis has a much better chance of retaining never Trumpers. People want the current state of the nation (economy, abortion etc) to be resolved and move forward. Everyone is sick of Trump playing the sore loser with his ad nauseum election BS. And that is his personality. He cares more about making himself look good than fixing Americas problems

I agree that Desantis will be "literally Hitler" like every Republican POTUS in my lifetime. But he will still not reach the level of hatred that Trump brought on. Trump infuriated so many people that Joe F'ing Biden got elected. Desantis does not step on his own dick every other time he lashes out on Twitter.

Trump was not afraid to stand up to the looney left, and he was not a globalist.

That is much more than Not Hillary.

In 2020, Trump got 9 million more votes than Obama did in 2012.

He was a hell of a president, and did much good, outside of COVID.

Except now we have an actual, very lengthy record of Trump harming the cause by making everything about himself and needlessly pissing people off. He was a good POTUS. He greatly exceeded my expectations but I do not want him to run again when we have another option that won't get in his own way. Fair or not, Trump lost to a dementia patient that didn't really run a campaign. Trump performed so poorly in the first debate with Biden (I'm still blown away at how awful he was that night) that he couldn't recover. He became unhinged. All this sore loser crap about the election just makes it worse.
