I know it's NPR and I hate NPR--
But in this case, NPR is ACTUALLY doing their job-- for once.
Synops- Folks in big Chinese cities have been moving their money out of big banks and into smaller community banks in rural towns.
Billions of Yaun are leaving the cities and going to these small banks. Folks then start trying to get some money out, and they're being told "no".
They get frustrated and collectively decide to travel to the small town banks to express their displeasure and protest.
In order to do anything in China, you have to have a "green light" QR code that shows you haven't been around anyone with Covid. .
So these folks all start their journey with a green QR code. By the time they arrive at their destinations, their QR code had changed to RED.
They are all detained, questioned and then sent home to quarantine. They can't get return calls from their bank, can't get their money, can't do anything.
Here's a Reuters link instead.
