I bolded the biggest takeaway for me.

The only group that changed was the one that looks to social media for the #currentthing.

Hmm...I wonder what the poll results would be if you polled Americans in say 1800 as to whether or not women had the same rights as men? Or if blacks had the same rights as whites?

I'm guessing if a lot of the women and men who are casual pro choicers heard exactly how a late term abortion is performed, they might change their stance from what the current crop of Democrats believe which is abortion on demand anytime during a pregnancy.

Depends a LOT on how you define each side and how absolute your terms are for membership in each group and how extreme you couch their respective positions.

If you say absolutely no abortion at all ever, pro choice gets a higher return.

If you say abortion for any reason at any time up to birth, suddenly pro choice doesn't seem so popular.

Don't forget, under current law today, in general the USA has some of the most extreme pro abortion law this side of China and North Korea.

Interestingly, this poll has significance because in light of the (leaked) decision from the court, people's opinions regarding abortion will again be relevant to the discussion of abortion, rather than being outside of the people's purview.

But a national poll means precisely squat. A much more interesting and purposeful poll would be a state by state poll.

Instead of being a Constitutional right (which the Roe court made up) it may revert to the states - where it should be.

In general terms, that would be an inaccurate statement. It is true that the USA allows abortion, for any reason, for a longer period that most countries, but if you are including China and North Korea in a list of "extreme pro abortion law" for that reason, then it is very dishonest to exclude Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, France and others. Yet even in countries with earlier limits, women can often get an abortion after the gestational cutoff for a wide variety of reasons, like health or economic ones. In most cases, it can be easier to obtain an abortion than in many parts of the USA. And in the countries mentioned above, they have more abortion providers compared to the USA that has restricted them by law, and they cover the costs of abortions.

But as an aside, I've been told for years that an "overwhelming majority" of the country is pro-choice.

If only 55% are, it makes sense why this couldn't pass at a federal level and had to be legislated onto everyone by the Supreme Court.
