I will say in all 3 of my small town Texas schools, never was I told I could not teach one of those books on my list.
I did get parental permission for The Bluest Eye and was very, very detailed on why I was asking permission. No parent ever said no when I sent home a copy of the book for them to read along with their kids if there were any things that they wanted to discuss

CA bans John Steinbeck's "Of Mice and Men?!" That's pretty interesting, especially given that he was raised in Salinas, CA and a lot of his books setting are around that area. There's a lot of Steinbeck stuff around Monterey, CA and surrounding areas.
Our 8th grader is reading To Kill a Mockingbird in school, so...
Well that makes total sense…. That bookstore and the neighborhoods close by it are her demographic, ironically…rich white liberals.
