Hell no. Why do we need even more data collection? At this point you cant even take a **** without Google knowing how long it takes and how much TP you use.

Just more Big Brother.

I'd never, ever knowingly live or frequent a place that has them.

Cities across the country use them - and have many police cars equipped with them as well. The cat is well out of the bag on these.

My hood just put them in. Guess it's more good than bad, as I'm a law abiding American. We used to be out in the country and everything was calm/peaceful. Then the urban sprawl made its way out and ruined the tranquility. There are spec house developments with less than desirable neighbors and the crime that follows.

How is it different than the cameras people put on their houses ( if there's a question of ethics/legality)?

Great tool to help track down criminals that may be operating in your neighborhood.

Flock Safety is one company that provides the LPR systems.

Lolpoors? Who get falsely accused of breaking into a neighborhood house and have to spend a night or two in jail? Not my problem.

I want to hate it, but as a law abiding citizen, I'll allow it.

Against them. Too much big brother. Criminals will use stolen cars and paper plates to get around them. Put up gates and cameras at your house if in fear and choice is yours.

Thoughts? I don't want that crap. It's obviously not working on the criminals based on crime stats and half the criminals are using fake paper plates on their cars any ways.

I'm against all government surveillance without a warrant. But private citizens can do what they want.

It seems that everyone has doorbell cameras now. If private property owners want to get together and add a few more cameras on their shared property I have no issues with it.

Hell, I'm still pissed off about traffic light cameras.

Traffic light cameras on public streets are not the same thing as license plate scanners in private neighborhoods.

As far as the "Big Brother" comments, I'm very anti big government or government surveillance.

Security cameras in neighborhoods that are voted on by members of the HOA is not Big Brother.

If you are operating your vehicle on a public road, then you are in public. No different than someone observing you with their eyes.

In theory it could do a lot to help curb piece of **** scumbags that commit crimes

But in reality, the neighborhoods that would benefit are in cities run by piece of **** scumbag liberals that have a revolving door jail in place

We have them on every entrance into our city. A lot of bad guys already avoid our area because if the police, but this just adds to local security. They've already captured quite a few bad guys (stolen cars, people with outstanding warrants) since the installation of the scanners.

I share this thought. So long as it is not made available to government, I'm generally okay with it.

It doesn't seem like this would really stop crime. People intent on roaming the neighborhood checking cars and such will cover their plates, have paper tags, or simply not care because the police/justice system doesn't really care about this type of crime. It would simply be data collection for the HOA gestapo to get off on.

I suspect that after a burglary or car break-in that data is provided to local police. But I agree, I wouldn't want the police or other government entities having unfettered access.

Let's say a professional has a home office for their counseling business. Maybe for something deeply personal, like survivors of suicide.

How should the patients feel, knowing they are being identified by anonymous third parties, possibly including the government?

You should know those plate readers subdivisions are installing are hooked up to local, state and federal law enforcement. They aren't your normal security camera. T

Maybe the professional should get an office with Regis or WeWork and come across as more professional.

J/K I don't really care.

Our subdivision just installed Flock plate readers at the entrances. We had several incidents where it would have been extremely helpful to know who went in the gate at a certain time.

That said, you can opt out so your car does not get tracked if you are a resident.

You should also know Flock just signed a deal with the city of Houston. First set of 150 license reader cameras are being installed now.

Wow. I've never heard of this and didn't realize it was a thing much less employed already by several neighborhoods reading this thread.

We are now having trouble getting our off-duty police patrol here in our Dallas hood. Apparently, everyone is now doing this and a bidding war for off-duty cops has commenced.

Sounds like another trigger point for further automation like these cameras.

Incorrect. Corporations who manage these systems are big brother. The government outsources it's monitoring and data collection to said corporations.

Are these primarily in gated communities I take it?
