Seems like Putin is trying to de-escalate in Ukraine and cut losses, odds he'd actually referees course at this point? A sane Putin wouldn't, but I guess we will see…

They only 2/3 approval from existing members correct? Turkey seems to be unpredictable with their motives.
Quote:
The North Atlantic Treaty is the basis of the organization, and, as such, any changes including new membership requires ratification by all current signers of the treaty. The treaty's Article 10 describes how non-member states may join NATO:
The Parties may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European State in a position to further the principles of this Treaty and to contribute to the security of the North Atlantic area to accede to this Treaty.

For some reason I thought it had to be unanimous, but now I'm not so sure. Perhaps you're correct.

Russia threatens 'full-scale nuclear war' as Putin furious with NATO
A TOP Russian official has warned that NATO has sparked outrage by helping Ukraine, which could trigger a "full-fledged nuclear war".
By JACOB PAUL 15:51, Fri, May 13, 2022 | UPDATED: 15:52, Fri, May 13, 2022
NATO has stood firm in its support for Ukraine ever since Russia launched its brutal invasion back in mid-February. Members of the military alliance have shipped thousands of weapons to help the Ukrainian army in battle. And in April, NATO agreed to supply new types of advanced weaponry to the country to prepare for the siege Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine.
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said this NATO support will make a direct conflict between the alliance and Moscow more likely.
He also warned that this could even result in a full-blown nuclear war.
Mr Medvedev said: "First, the pumping of Ukraine by NATO countries with weapons, the training of its troops to use Western equipment, the dispatch of mercenaries, and the conduct of exercises by the countries of the Alliance near our borders increase the likelihood of a direct and open conflict between NATO and Russia instead of their 'war by proxy'.
"Second, such a conflict always has the risk of turning into a full-fledged nuclear war....

Is this the same Finland that our congressional representatives for religious freedom had to call out for persecution against Christians?
"In 2019, Dr. Rsnen, a practicing Lutheran, tweeted in response to her denomination's support for an LGBT pride event. Her tweet asked how a church could affirm homosexuality and still be consistent with the Bible, including a link to Romans 1:24-27. In 2004, Dr. Rsnen authored a pamphlet making the case for a traditional definition of marriage that was published by Lutheran bishop Reverend Dr. Juhana Pohjola. Finland's Prosecutor General, after repeatedly interrogating Dr. Rsnen, formally charged her with three charges of incitement against ethnic groups in April 2021."
Yeah, no thanks

This isn't 1950. Russia is a freaking disaster in every conceivable way that is imploding. In no way, shape, or form can they project power beyond countries that border them and that's questionable and very limited. They simply don't have the money, manpower, or equipment and that isn't going to change for the next 30-50 years. If you don't understand that you simply don't know much about Russia. Hell they couldn't even send a line of tanks into Ukraine on a flat road that wasn't being attacked by the air, they just ran out of gas and stopped. Their planes that are being shot down have GPS taped to them because the tech inside doesn't work.RogerEnright said:
I promise you that Russia's apatite for conquest will not be satiated. Their history is decently linear.
Why shouldn't Finland try to protect itself?
