While I recognize there is a thread about the ukr/rus war, this is an interesting topic that shouldn't get shuffled in the hundreds of pages.
I have already stated that polish folk hold just as much, if not more, animosity toward Ukrainians as they do Russians. That being said the Ukrainians in the western provinces deify Stepan Bandera, nazi collaborator and ethnic cleanser of poles. Poland may use this invasion as a premise to recapture Lviv which was founded by the Proto-poles and taken by the USSR and apportioned to Ukraine during the collapse.
Lviv is the 6th largest city of modern Ukraine and would be a return to its rightful owner....especially if the rightful owner shows up with its military.
Many ukr supporters cant fathom this because "what is Ukraine's must always be Ukraine's forever and ever amen" but poland would simply back channel russia saying its moving into lviv within a week of the peace deal that will split ukr in two. Poland would then back channel NATO into acknowledging that Lviv would be strategically better under polish control. And who could argue against that? Ukr wouldnt have the military up to the strength of poland and it gives the west a reasonable foothold into the geography ahead of ukr admission into NATO...however if the russian deal gets ukr to promise neutrality, a Polish Lviv might be the only option for NATO to move east.
