Iceland The world's largest carbon removal facility designed to fight global warming suffered a major setback after an Arctic blast froze the machinery and forced the company to make modifications.

The Climeworks "Orca" plant east of Reykjavik, Iceland is now running behind schedule after the machinery froze due to frigid temperatures.

Orca was built in 2021 and "hailed by Iceland's prime minister Katrin Jakobsdottir as a "milestone in the fight against climate change"" the NewScientist reported
Ooops!

The world's largest carbon removal plant located to the east of Reykjavik, Iceland, has frozen, putting its operations behind schedule.

Climeworks, the company behind the ambitious plant named 'Orca', had set out to capture 4,000 metric tons of CO2 every year directly from the air a process known as direct air capture or DAC.
By the end of the decade, in fact, the project's capacity is expected to reach as much as 1 million tons of carbon dioxide.
Quote:

However, as it became apparent, the plant was not equipped to handle the harsh weather conditions in Iceland and some of the machinery froze.

Climeworks was thus forced to urgently make modifications, which will inevitably be a bump in the road towards the company's carbon removal goals in Iceland.

The Orca plant was officially launched in September 2021 and was even praised by the country's prime minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and dubbed a 'milestone' in the global battle against the climate crisis.

Furthermore, the DAC facility runs on power from geothermal energy sources, meaning it is as sustainable as can be.

I think this is idiotic but I'd much rather leftists spend their time and money on this crap vs 99% of their CC insanity that is just Marxism by another name. Happy for them to go out and plant as many trees and plants to process CO2 as well.

What I loved was using geo thermal energy...in tundra. Kind of hit or miss there. Challenging and expensive.

So they plan to collect CO2?

Is there a straw or something that is humans can blow into to help them collect that?

And people like Kerry, Gore and other folks can buy "carbon credits" while flying their private jets to Davos.

Turning CO2 into chalk, carbonates and Tums. What could go wrong.

Great, you've got CO2 capturing down. Now I guess we can keep building gas powered sports cars that probably account for less than .0001% of global CO2 emissions?

That Iceland. Always virtue-signaling.

An Icelandic on line publication did a story on Afro-Icelanders back in 2019 where the writer described the "awful" condition of black people in the US.

My former FIL (from my first husband, who died) was stationed in Reykjavik during the early 60s. Air Force pilot.

He had moved his family (five kids) to Alaska when he was stationed there but Iceland was a no go back then. He was a very funny and flirtatious kind of guy but when I ever asked him anything about his time in Iceland or Los Alamos, he would just shake his head and raise his finger to his mouth, "Shush!"

Wonder what the carbon footprint was to build that stupid ****ing thing? In our quest to save the planet, we keep finding more and more ways to produce more carbon all in veiled attempt to save the world. This is such a scam and a money grab, I can't even look at these consultants when they come to our offices to help us measure our carbon footprint. It's laughable.

Iceland is on a mission to get rid of every newborn with Down Syndrome, simply by aborting them all.

I hope that whole population perishes from a volcano….

I guess I am environmentalist, I don't like people effing with our air. It's about as clean as it needs to be.

IMHO the real answer has always actually been planting more trees.

And yes, there are a few of surface area studies meant to to contradict this, but honestly that's because they don't really want a simple scientific solution.

We literally already have creatures that soak up sun and CO2, making oxygen. And they self sustain once they are planted and cultivated.
