Best move is to inform heb who is insured against crime on their property, and would replace the stolen food.

The realty is the thief will not see justice served by law enforcement. And it's not worth the legal or personal risk for the victim to take matters into her own hands.

It sucks, but life's not fair.

If I had my way, I'd make life even more unfair for you and those like you. I would charge you for the goods that these shoplifters take.
So, of course, he already does, right?

That's the joke? (I hope?)

No. They will close that location instead. Makes more sense economically.

Then when dollar stores move in and become the only food source in what is now a food desert, dollar stores are labeled as racist. Everything is racist, inanimate or not, except you know what.
The certainly will be no meat in the newly defined $1,25 Dollar stores.

Honestly, she should never have gotten involved. H-E-B is not going to award her employee of the month or give a private citizen a gift certificate. And are you prepared to take a life when that escalates? I'm certainly not over H-E-Bs product. Because they won't be there when I'm on trial or get my legal bills. Sad truth about the world we live in today. Now attempt to steal my groceries? That's a completely different story.

I think they start following the model of stores like electronics stores. Small, high value, high theft items have a ticket that you take to the counter, and they pull the item out of stock when you pay for it.

Temple Police Department investigates meat theft
TEMPLE, TX (April 18, 2022) The Temple Police Department is investigating a meat theft.
On Friday, April 15 at around 3:34pm, Temple Police Officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of S. 31 Street for a theft in progress.
When officers arrived, they found two females had stolen meat from the grocery store and had left the area. They learned a store employee noticed the two exit the store with large quantities of unpaid meat products. The employee confronted them and tried to pull the cart away, but they were able to load all of the meat into their vehicle.
The same suspects let a shopping cart run into another vehicle in the parking lot, damaging it.
It is estimated the suspects stole over $2,000 in meat. This is an active investigation.
Anyone with information should contact the Temple Police Department at 254-298-5500 or the Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-8477, where callers can report anonymously.

HEB should have closed that location and moved it to a safer place long ago.

She was already involved and in contact with the thief. Mu point is, taking paper pics of paper plates is worthless, if she wanted useful information, the VIN is what you would want.

To your point, I don't know what I would do, but this attitude is what leads to wanton lawlessness. It must be stopped. Doing what is right should not not be dissuaded by a broken justice system. The result of doing so will absolutely lead to the destruction of that civilization.

The pro tip is that the increasing lawlessness and injustice in the justice system is by design.

She was already involved because she choose to be.

And I completely understand your point of letting things like this occur is what leads to the proliferation of these incidents. But that doesn't change the fact that getting involved in stopping a shoplifter at H-E-B is a very bad idea in todays world.

In a just world that scum should have her ass beat at the very least. I'd even go so far as to say she in no way contributes anything of value to society and the world would be a better place without her.

But again, none of that changes the fact that the world we live in today does not support vigilantes. Too bad because we need some Los Pepes.

I like that, but before you do that push the cart away from the trunk to distract / force the perp to waddle after it, then use a sharp object to slash the packaging of some of the more juicy meats. Get some nice raw blood flowing into the trunk. Maybe squeeze some of those huge hamburger tubes to get a little rubbed into the carpet.

Then toss the keys down the drain.

Anyone who has been to that HEB on 31st, or the Walmart down the street, has probably wanted to commit some crimes but meat theft is way down the list.

That's actually a pretty creative solution. Turn the cart on its side, walk over, grab their keys, and go in the store until cops get there.

You'd think in temple the police would arrive faster/ some cars would of blocked them in/ more people would of helped the HEB employee.

Also, I'd love to see HEB not press charges. They would get robbed blind daily.
