Reasons for rejecting textbooks included references to Critical Race Theory (CRT), inclusions of Common Core, and the unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in mathematics.

Florida is doing it right and red states should take notice and follow suit. Republicans are taking care of business and taking public education back from the leftists. No more Marxist indoctrination.

Run on it and let the Dems try to defend it. If Republicans can't win on this issue it's hopeless.

I know Crenshaw isn't loved around here, but give this episode of his podcast a listen. His guest describes how things like CRT get into the classroom and into curriculum.

It gets buried in textbooks like these. It gets into curriculums that are developed by 3rd party to be compliant with new programs brought into being by congress. Example: The original goals of Common Core were decent, but required curriculum overhauls. Groups that lobbied to get the law passed then went to the schools saying, "Here we have a curriculum ready to go meets all the new metrics." The CRT was built in and the districts, not looking for it, never saw it.

Math isn't racist. But some math textbook authors are clearly nitwits.

Math textbooks should be about math and not social commentary. Any math textbook that pushes any social issues, regardless of which side they are on, should not be used.

They ought to be able to take math books from the 1960s, reprint them without changes, and use them for the texts in schools.

Note; I did get some strange looks from one student years ago when I talked about the discriminant. Idiot student didn't like the term.

Was that page supposed to show that whites are systematically oppressing blacks? Because if it is, I think I missed it.

I'm a teacher. I was teaching summer school last summer, and the kids were doing math enrichment on an online program that is used by most schools. One of the kids asked me what "non-binary" was (it was used in many of the word problems). We didn't use that dumbass program again.

Some would be surprised but a form of CRT has been around for a very long time. I took sociology classes in the late 70s that touched on it.

At the end of the day, it is a theory, not proven fact.

But want to know what was once a theory and then was proven a psychological and sociological fact? Self-fulfilling prophecies.

Quote:

self-fulfilling prophecy, process through which an originally false expectation leads to its own confirmation. In a self-fulfilling prophecy an individual's expectations about another person or entity eventually result in the other person or entity acting in ways that confirm the expectations.
