Coughing up blood and all of the usual suspects. On their worst day, any of troops don't deserve in that hellhole. Get him out NOW.

Biden didn't care about the 13 Marines killed in AFG due to his disastrous withdrawal. Why would he care about one stuck in Russia?

Was he an active duty or former Marine when arrested?

I ask because, what the heck would an active duty Marine be doing in Russia outside of guarding an embassy?

Biden thinks about him every day? Seriously? Dude can't even string two sentences together or remember what he did an hour ago.

You break the rules in Russia you pay the consequences in Russia.

If a Russian beat up a cop over here and Putin demanded we release him, we would (and should) tell him to F himself.

"former US Marine Trevor Reed" per the article.

According to the article he was arrested in 2019? What have we done so far to negotiate his release?

I am a fan of the Locked Up Abroad series, and one of many things it taught me is do not **** around in countries like Russia, albeit that is a lesson someone should know already.

Have you seen the propaganda that country spits out, especially lately? There has been no evidence proving he did anything and the trial was a total sham. Russia tries to get these Americans in prison for negotiating power to release their real criminals we have here.

I don't know the details of the case at all. just going off that article.

Russia says he got drunk and assaulted cops. His side says he got drunk and passed out. Neither is a smart thing to do in Russia.

That being said, the accounts I read seem to imply that we have a few Russians in jail here, and the Russians trumped up charges against some Americans to negotiate a prisoner exchange. I don't know why the exchange isn't happening.

Just going off a CNN article? Well you should do some research about what happened. The thing is a total sham with literally zero proof or damages.

Maybe that Marine can knock up a stripper and get some pay for play schemes set up, then Biden will be there in a heart beat.

What a horrible precedent you want to start.
So anytime we arrest a Russia for a real crime (the ones we have here that Russia wants are bad dudes). then they just have to arrest Americans on bogus charges to get their guys free?!

As a general rule, please post the relevant text of articles from pieces of **** websites like CNN along with the link so we don't have to give those tugbuckets any clicks. This should be Rule #2 if there isn't one already.

If he admits to passing out, then he may not remember much of anything that he did. Not sure how people can be 100% sure that it's a sham (other than Russia being a propaganda nation that is FOS on much of everything else).

This sucks but no one should be visiting countries that aren't fully within the sphere of American influence. I don't care how you think things should work; your opinions don't matter in someone else's country.

To be fair, we're not any better. We trump up bs charges against our own citizens all the time. The Jan 6 protestors are still in solitary confinement.

From the (albeit little) I've read about this the kid is an idiot. He lived a very comfortable fat, drunk, and lazy American lifestyle. He put on the uniform of our country and bravely defended Camp David. Now he wants a "thank me for my service" after he was drunk and stupid in a very dangerous foreign country.

Meh...

My thoughts are exactly the same towards Brittney Griner.

Ex-Marine gets nine years in prison for drunkenly attacking Russian cops
"He has no memory of the evening past drinking vodka and being asked to toast many times," the Free Trevor Reed site said of the former Marine who was in Moscow studying Russian and to be with his girlfriend.

However, he was handed the hefty sentence in a Russian court after being found guilty of endangering the lives of two police officers.

He was accused of grabbing the arm of a cop driving the squad car after his arrest, causing it to swerve into other lanes, as well as elbowing an officer in the back with him.

Reed's defense called the charge against him fraudulent.

That's absurd. He wasn't exactly traveling to some "very dangerous" place like Afghanistan. He was in Russia, which until a few months ago, wasn't considered a dangerous place to travel. He was visiting with his girlfriend who is from Moscow. Many Americans travel to Russia without knowing anybody. He was with Russian citizens. There are no markings on the police officer, no bruises, literally no evidence or witnesses. But some of you are saying this is okay. This would never happen in the US because you at least need some proof. Even the testimony from the policeman in court was a sham as he completely contradicted his initial statements. This happened because once they found out he was a former marine they thought they could use him as a a bargaining chip.

On the flip side, I have 100 percent no sympathy for Brittany who brought drugs into the country and there is video evidence indicating it is true. They can keep her.

It does happen here we call it "resisting" and "assault on an officer".

People who get blackout drunk are capable of just about anything, and then won't remember it. I've seen the most squared away, straight-laced acquaintances you could ever know get scary violent after getting blackout drunk. I've had to explain to a friend how he fought 3 guys, then threw a concrete block thru some random parked car window, then had another block hoisted over his head ready to bash another car when the cops arrived.
aggie93
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It sucks for the guy but by his own admission he got black out drunk and can't remember what happened. Calling him a Marine also has no relevance, he is a former marine who certainly wasn't involved in any official duty and it doesn't sound like him being a Marine had anything to do with why he was arrested. You don't screw around as a foreigner in places like Russia and they don't have the same laws or rights that we have in the US. If we can get him released that's great but the person most responsible for his situation is the guy in the mirror. There are a hell of a lot of folks who are in line in front of him that didn't decide to get black out drunk and act stupid with Russian cops.
