The conundrum is you want their gas/oil, but you don't want them to profit from it.

One of the ideas being considered is to just continue taking gas from the pipeline and not paying for it. How you say? Apparently from a technical standpoint, it is tremendously hard to shut off pipelines. It causes problems/damage to the wells that are feeding the pipeline.

And the money that would be paid to Russia will instead be held in escrow.

There you go. No oil shortage, no money to Russia. Although I don't expect Russia would be happy about this.

Good idea. Putin is taking a country... so take the oil.

Putin would 100% shut in the pipelines, even if just out of spite.

I'm very certain without listening to it that this listener left with a large misunderstanding of what was actually said

You'd rather not shut in the wells with all other things being equal but you'd certainly rather shut them in than give the gas away for free. They also have isolation valves on the pipeline where you can shut off flow at strategic spots and keep the pipeline charged upstream.

My question is this, if your'e Ukraine why not just blow the pipeline(s) up at multiple spots and cut off A portion of Russia's war finances? I

I summarized exactly what was said. He said it is very hard to turn off pipelines, that it messes things up upstream. That's about as much detail as he said.

This the precise reason Russia waited until Nordtsream2 was complete before invading.

Trump sanctioned it when he was in office. Cruz tried to get sanctions passed, but it failed. Germany was the one who stopped it last second, but I don't think Putin believes it'll be for long.

From 2009, how to shut off gas pipeline:

I suspect Ukraine does not because the Euros have told them not to.

Just the Euros telling them not to won't keep them from being occupied by Russia. At this point blowing up the pipelines probably won't either but it may have helped 9-10 days ago. I would just think that at this point the Ukrainians hate the Russians so much they'll do it just to inflict as much pain as possible.

Can they extend the Russian gas pipeline all the way to the Quik Trip outside my neighborhood for free fill-ups?

Depends on where your neighborhood is
