Curious what Gohmert's mindset was in running. He left a job that he probably could have had for the rest of his life to run for a job that he had to have known was a 50/50 shot at best. What's the backup plan?
Michael Berry spoke about this briefly. He said a state senator who has a bone to pick with Paxton basically put Gohmert up to it. He didn't name the senator but said they are one of the wealthiest in the senate. Doesn't explain why Gohmert agreed to it.

Gohmert didn't have to be pushed hard on it. His family wants him out of DC, and he has major beef with Paxton centered around some election issues in 2020.

If he gets Paxton beat by helping to force a run off I think he'll come out of this pleased, even with being last place.

I knew there wouldn't be a runoff v Crenshaw. Maybe next time there will be a viable candidate.
Yep, the rest were nobodies.

It is damn near impossible to beat an incumbent, short of them sitting in prison or dead, and even then it is not a certainty, and to do so need a top tier candidate with name recognition.

Except all that will really do is advance the career of the next member of the Bush family who has been anointed to run for President.

So looking like AG runoff and Railroad Comissioner runoff with nekkid chick?
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Pretty much. The RRC will not be close. The crazy chick is going to feel like the pump jack landed on her head after the electoral beat down that is coming. The AG will decide whether or not we have another Bush as our next Republican candidate for governor (whenever Abbott decides not to run for reelection) and eventually candidate for President.

My neighborhood was just moved to Crenshaw's district after being in Kevin Brady's for forever. I was forced to toss a coin and vote for a nobody and wished I could have been deciding between Collins, Hullihan, and Morgan Luttrell in my old district. Looks like Crenshaw's buddy Luttrell won easily there.

It would be a 25% sales tax or 18% if we taxed everything including doctor visits and home sales

How wonderful

People pay property taxes through either their mortgage (almost always escrowed) or rent. If the latter, they think its the market or greedy landlords. If they had to pay 25% on their Starbucks order EVERY DAY, I think tax rates and government spending would be more on their mind.

Would it ever get back down to 8%? No, but it would be a decent first step.

Why? Paxton was clearly the weakest of the 3 big offices because of his scandals. And he was running against a Bush, a Congressman, and a Texas Supreme Court Judge.

I would have been surprised if there wasn't a runoff.

As it stands right now, Abbott has around 320,000 more votes than Beta, and around 245,000 more votes than all the Democrats combined.

Total, Republicans have about 770,000 more votes for governor for all candidates, than the Democrats do for all of their candidates.

He been relentless in suing the Biden admin on their BS, suing states like PA on election, was an early covid tyranny fighter, helped tx ledge get conceal carry, heartbeat bill, voter integrity, etc. Active and aggressive on conservative values. I guess stance on weed hurt him and the democrat political attacks /lawsuits v him personally worked enough to force runoff.

Pretty much 1,000 votes between Cuellar and the AOC clone and been stuck there for a while now.

Those lawsuits got absolutely nowhere but gold star for trying I guess.

He has had high unfavorables for a long time. He is going to be a target every primary until he loses. He just isn't very popular and isn't an up and coming conservative star.

Isn't Cuellar the only sane Dem in the entire state to actually speak out against the Biden policies that have led to the travesty at our southern border? Unbelievable.

Yes, which is why the left is targeting him including sending their jackboots in the FBI to raid his home.

IIRC, he is also the only Democrat in the House who voted against their abortion up to birth bill that the Senate killed (with Manchin voting against it there).

Be careful on the RRC deal. Supporters of the other candidates are HIGHLY likely to pile onto Stogner's side. They're all bound by their hate for Wayne Christian and his corruption. If I remember correctly, one of the last two RRC elections had something similar, where an incumbent had a big lead in the primary only to lose to the second place person in the runoff.

From what I'm reading, Cuellar was the only Dem in the entire House to vote against that abortion bill making he and Manchin the only two in the entire party with somewhat of a soul.

I can't wait for property taxes to double here in DFW because of home valuation increases.

I know they can only go up 10%/yr but they will get there.

Valuations are so crazy right now I can see an average house's property tax being $8k to $10k/yr.

I am already paying over that. I have had 10% max increase for 12 years in a row and I fight the valuation every year.

Property tax sucks because it in no way tracks your income. You lose your job, your house still appreciates 5%. Sorry but your taxes go up. Your income goes up 5% but your house appreciates 10% - tough luck - pay up.
