And where did Putin come up with an idea that Ukraine was full of or run by Nazis?

The President of Ukraine is a jew-- is he not?

Where on earth did Putin get the idea that by saying he's attacking Nazis, he's got the right to start breaking things and harming people? Who gave him this idea?

So just call your adversary a Nazi and you're justified in decimating them?

Little help?

When World War II came, it at first was positive for Ukraine. The Polish-controled Ukranian populations were united with their brethren. But it went downhill from there. When Germany invaded the Soviet Union, most of the early battles - and bloody ones they were - took place on Ukranian soil. Once again, a large minority of Ukranians sided with what outsiders might see as the enemy. As many as 500,000 joined the German Army to fight against the communists. This was partly lingering Ukranian/Russian conflict, but mostly anti-communism. Either way, the Nazis threw away this boon. By treating the Ukranians terribly, they drove many of these would-be-collaborators back into the arms of Stalin as resistance fighters. It didn't help. Ukraine was punished after the war for this collaboration, even though it was a minority. Ukraine was once again reincorporated into the Soviet Union, now with expanded borders at the expense of Poland. (Notably, Putin gave a hint of this deep resentment against Ukranians by calling for "denatzification," effectively painting the pro-Western leadership of today with this brush).

You don't have to have a basis in truth to start this sort of disinformation campaign. Surprised he did call them a bunch of racist, misogynists, ant gay authoritarian deplorables.

It's propaganda. You say what you have to do allow the most pooosible people to rationalize or excuse supporting you or at least not opposing you. They are a universal phantom enemy for this purpose.

Putin has a pretty good troll. I'm surprised he didn't say that he invaded to cut down their carbon emissions.

During WWII Ukrainians collaborated with the Nazis to get rid of commies.
The commies came back and killed massive number of Ukrainians, errrr Nazis.
The commies regularly use the term "nazi" to describe their enemies in that region.

Pro-German "Ukranian liberation army" in World War II:

I like this thoughtful explanation.

Could it also be he is invoking American Marxism and our divisive enmity over the apparitions of Republican/conservative fascists and Nazis, whom we must battle to save our democracy, to garner support from Western communist sympathizers?

That was 70 years ago. All those Nazis are dead. I think Putin stole a page out of the MSM and leftists and just started calling folks Nazis to justify his actions.

Collaborated isn't a fair characterization. The Russians starved millions of them to death 20 years earlier. Many viewed the Germans as liberators.

It's a psychological ploy to get the American left / progressive fascists antifa groups to actually support him. By saying he's "attacking Nazis" the left will go easy on him.

Well played actually.

Flip it around and It may also hint that Putin has been using a massive propaganda campaign successfully in America via social media to agitate antifa for precisely this moment... /fledgling conspiracy theory
