For police officers to be trusted in a community, the bad ones need to be held accountable.
You won't get anywhere with this crowd, but Jose Garza is incredible. Cops should be at least as scared as anyone else of the consequences of severely injuring someone without genuine justification.

But this bunch of free speech absolutists and champions of individual liberty who are super skeptical of overreaching government power get raging hard ons thinking about armed agents of the state unleashing violence and death indiscriminately against people whose politics they dislike without consequence. The specific facts of what the person in question did to deserve it and whether it was necessary don't even enter into it. A good person would never be associated with the Other Team so nothing done to them can be wrong.
Amazing. Here's some of his "incredible" accomplishments:

Protecting sexual abusers of children! Incredible!

Quote:

At issue is a demand by Jose Garza's office for the Assistant DA to delete evidence. The case involves a defendant who was charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in June. During meetings to discuss the case, the Assistant DA notes that Garza's office demanded that she "delete emails and work product notes on this case between myself and Victim Witness Counselor." After she fought the request to destroy evidence, Garza's second-in-command First Assistant Trudy Strassburger stepped in to again demand the evidence be destroyed.
Quote:

Others working in the DA's office have anonymously shared that, since Garza's election, a "culture of fear" has developed against speaking out about these changes. We will be keeping a close eye on the story and have opened an anonymous tip line below to report other corrupt activities.
More incredible things that the DA has done. I'm sure the thermos and Pylon Cam really love this:

Quote:

The resignation comes at a time when Jose Garza has been under increasing scrutiny over his office's early release of dozens of violent criminals. This month, two individuals who were suspects in the 6th street mass shooting were released from jail without any charges, despite camera footage showing the suspects holding guns during the shooting. The family of 6th street mass shooting victim, Douglas Kantor, released a statement saying they now have 'no faith' in Garza to conduct a fair investigation. The victim's brother added: "what I took away from the press conference was that they are not prosecuting violent criminals anymore."

Dozens of other violent suspects have been released early as the DA has applied a new approach to convictions that may be contributing to a surge in violent and property crime across Austin. According to CBS Austin's interview with Dennis Farris with the Austin Police Retired Officers Association, now "criminals understand that they not being held accountable".

Joshua Hardesty, for example, was murdered in 2018 in North Austin by Issac Thomas. Thomas was arrested for another murder that same year. In June 2021 the victim's father says he learned that Garza's office is giving the killer a plea deal that could make him eligible for parole.

This "Incredible" DA loves deleting evidence:

Quote:

Austin Attorney and former State and Federal Prosecutor Doug O'Connell demanded answers to another internal corruption scandal at the DA's office on July 1st, publicly challenging Garza: "Did your team direct the APD Homicide Detective to not discuss or raise exculpatory evidence? Did your team demand that the Detective eliminate slides from his power point presentation?"
What an Incredible DA

Quote:

Our current District Attorney Jos Garza, has increased the number of felons let out into Austin by 735% this year. Someone he let free was even recently responsible for the murder of an Austinite. Just this year, he has unilaterally decided to not pursue any charges for a multitude of crimes such as 283 criminal trespassing charges and 17 assaults causing bodily injury, including an assault on a pregnant Austin woman. Why is he doing this? Radical ideology. He says he wants to "tear down the system". Cases aren't even being presented to judges. We must fight back before Austin becomes completely lawless.
More incredible accomplishments for Jose

So the DA is letting out a man who shot 14 people (killed one). We can all guess the "mass shooters" color based on the shooting count and the fact that the "incredible" DA hasn't been able to keep that shooter in prison.

At the same time the DA isn't prosecuting anyone for rioting.
But is prosecuting 19 cops instead, for reacting to violence during BLM rioting.

Again, like PylonCam, I sincerely hope that you are at the receiving end of your "incredible" DAs policies. There was a time where i would feel pity. Now, i will point and laugh and absolutely enjoy the **** show.

Incredible record-setting homicides in 2021

Probably just coincidental that Austin sets a record for murders in this leftists' first year as DA. Incredible indeed.

Easy solution: list your house for sale and pick between the 10 over asking price offers that come in within 48 hours because for some reason vast numbers of people really want to live in this terrible Democrat hellscape. Even though there's nothing to do here except get murdered by roving gangs of homeless people for accidentally using the wrong pronouns and watch the entire city get burned to the ground by antifa yet again while mustache-twirling Marxist professors literally tie the hands of the police.

Those moving in are Cali transplants trying to escape that liberal hell hole, which is much worse than Austin up to this point. As bad as Austin is, it's still in a red state unlike Caili. But Austin is quickly becoming the same kind of **** hole that San Fran and LA are.

I agree with you. I'd get the heck out if I lived there and had the ability to migrate.

I can't say what I hope happens to your boy Garza, the Marxist Latinx. I'd get banned.

This guy loves him some crime and corruption in San Fran on the Colorado. My guess is zhe will move to Hays or Williamson county as the idiocy he voted for takes the city to new lows. And then proceed to vote for the same idiocy.

Can't afford to ... and don't want to. Given what they see day in and day out, why would they want to raise a family in that hell hole?

These Austin police officers were applying the training the received by using bean bags. I live in Austin, and I receive emails from the Save Austin Now Pac. An internal Austin Police Department investigation found that no APD procedure was violated. Austin Police Chief Joe Chacon called the indictments, 'extremely disappointing', and put these officers on administrative duty with pay pending their court proceedings.

Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza is declaring war on Austin Police at the worst time. The Austin Police Department is 230 officers down from when the council voted 11-0 to cut one-third of its budget in 2020. They are losing 15 officers each month on average to attrition. We are already facing the most profound staffing crisis in Austin history during the worst violent crime wave in Austin history. And now these indictments will make every officer think twice before agreeing to respond in a crisis or serve an overtime shift. There were 29 separate incidents of protesters violently attacking police officers during these very same riots and none are currently facing charges. At least 12 officers suffered significant injuries.

Quote:

Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday blasted the indictment of more than a dozen Austin police officers for alleged excessive force during the May 2020 racial justice protests and dangled the possibility of pardons for them.

"Those officers should be praised for their efforts, not prosecuted," Abbott said in a statement. "Time will tell whether the accusations against the courageous Austin police officers is a political sham. Time will also tell whether I, as Governor, must take action to exonerate any police officer unjustly prosecuted."

Travis County District Attorney Jos Garza's office, which brought the indictments, responded to Abbott's statement by defending the decision to pursue charges.

"Unlike the Governor, we believe that no one is above the law, and that our communities are safer when people see and believe that is true," the office said in a statement.

The indictments accuse the 19 officers of using deadly weapons to injure nearly a dozen demonstrators and threatening them with serious bodily harm during the May 2020 protests against police brutality following the killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Michael Ramos in Austin.

Each officer faces two counts of aggravated assault, a first-degree felony when committed by a law enforcement officer. The charges are punishable by five to 99 years in prison, or a fine of up to $10,000.

Abbott would need a majority of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, a board appointed by the governor, to approve any pardon issued by his office.

My LEA friends have zero motivation to respond in fear for their own livelihood and I don't blame them. Not 6 months ago in downtown austin it took 15 min for police to respond to a shooting.
