Yeah, the real heroes in the horrific story of American slavery are white people.

Yes that's undeniably true. It is true as well that the villains were mostly white people.

The "Civil War" was not fought to free slaves. That has become almost a universally accepted fact but it is not true. The "Civil War" was fought to force sovereign states back into a federal union in which they no longer desired membership.
The State of Texas declaration for joining the war clearly stated "retaining the right to own slaves" as a primary reason.

I suppose it depends on what books you've read. I recently finished " Slavery and The Civil War: What Your History Teacher Didn't Tell You" by Bowers. It argues slavery wasn't reason."

Tis hilarious that the party of actual racists, the Democrats, want to wory about names on buildings and old statues and STILL ooze racism from every fiber of their ideology.

However, if Lincoln had allowed those states to peacefully secede from the Union, there would not have been a war.

And slavery would have persisted for another 20+ years. What's your point? They went to war to retain their right to decide, which was to decide for slavery. Do you really think that if the southern states were of the mindset "well, we're really ready to end slavery, but the feds can't tell us what to do, so lets go to war over it"?

I spoke in plain English, but I will say it again.

My point is that the war would not have happened if the states had peacefully been allowed to secede from the union. The South would have had no reason to go to war.

I made no comment on slavery whatsoever. It was abhorrent and still is. Yes, it would have continued for a while, but that has nothing to do with what I said.

Mine too, and I still have my SWT ID in the box with my college stuff plus some random Bobcat things. She and I even took classes from a couple of the same profs.

If cecil77 would like to borrow my notes and books from when I took 'History of the South - Civil War Through Present' at A&M 25 years ago he's welcome to it. I think he could use the stuff more than I need it.

The GOP, despite having control of every aspect of state government, seems perfectly content to let the taxpayer-funded leftists at public universities run amok.

Does anyone know when the GOP in Texas went from hard right-wing conservative to lean-right moderate?
People who want to get into government to enrich and empower themselves are a dime a dozen. People who want to get into government to slash and burn are few and far between. It is a sorry dichotomy in politics that the people you most need in office are the ones that don't want to be there.

The ones with the never ending anger and hate are the Left, who want names taken off buildings, statues removed, textbooks banned, voices of dissent censored, and political speech censored, conservative speakers banned from College Campuses, and that's just for starters.

"Texas State University will rename a dorm because its namesake was involved in the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Sallie Beretta, who was born in 1874 and died in 1964, was the first women appointed to serve on the Board of Regents for the Texas State University System. In 1947, a new women's dormitory was named after her."

Woke TSU...

Will the azzhat administration return the land to her family? Isn't it tainted as well?
"She also served 18 years on the board of regents, and in 1951 donated her 125-acre ranch to the university, which remains in use today for hiking, biking, swimming and fishing."
I dislike the whole woke thing, but Beretta was a strong proponent of the "lost cause" "myth". As such she has done a lot of damage to the history of the civil war and its root causes.

Weird reply, though I mostly agree even if it doesn't apply to the topic. Was it the commies that dropped Southwest from the central Texas located school?

For sure agree that banning books is bad. Sad the see that the Left is currently doing that in Texas schools.

Two-thirds of SWT alums were against the name change in 2003. It wasn't so much the change itself as it was the manner in which it was handled. The student government president and his assistant approached then-State Senator Jeff Wentworth '60 about having the legislature draw up a bill for the change. This allowed circumvention of the Texas State University System Board of Regents.

A generation has passed since the change and emotions still run high about it. The campus has changed dramatically over the last 20 years and it's almost unrecognizable to some.
