Below is commentary from a good friend of mine that is a hospital administrator for our largest Cancer Facility in Ontario. Very smart person, different place in this scenario, different view. Not entirely invalid from her perspective but certainly narrow.
This morning I am furious and disappointed and furious
some more. I drove from Grimsby to St. Catharines and
with every overpass I became more furious. This trucker
**** show (and I know some of you support this) is one of
the most disrespectful and selfish acts I have seen. This
is a **** you to every person that has tried to minimize
spread, to every teacher who has taught online to
minimize spread, to every family that has lost someone,
to every person suffering in isolation to minimize spread.
It is a giant **** you to every healthcare worker that has
been hailed a hero one day and spit on the next, who has
worked beyond what is reasonable, who is terrified to
bring this home to their families, who has born the
trauma and mental distress of watching people intubated
and die in ICU, who have watched healthy people
become disabled from long covid. For healthcare leaders
that have had to work countless hours to plan and replan
every part of the system to help care for people (some of
whom spit in the face of the science that heals them).
And to you supporting this I say **** you! Unfriend me
because your selfishness and indignation at
inconveniences make you someone I don't want in my
life.
