Federal prosecutors have charged the founder of the Oath Keepers and 10 other members of the far-right group with seditious conspiracy for their role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, the Justice Department announced Thursday.
Stewart Rhodes, 56, was arrested Thursday in Little Elm, Texas, and also faces charges for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
The Oath Keepers leader and founder has said he was present at the riot but never entered the Capitol.
Quote:

"The seditious conspiracy indictment alleges that, following the Nov. 3, 2020, presidential election, Rhodes conspired with his co-defendants and others to oppose by force the execution of the laws governing the transfer of presidential power by Jan. 20, 2021," Justice Department wrote in a release.

"Beginning in late December 2020, via encrypted and private communications applications, Rhodes and various co-conspirators coordinated and planned to travel to Washington, D.C., on or around Jan. 6, 2021, the date of the certification of the electoral college vote, the indictment alleges. Rhodes and several co-conspirators made plans to bring weapons to the area to support the operation. The co-conspirators then traveled across the country to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area in early January 2021."

The charges are the first seditious conspiracy charge used in connection with the riot, carrying the risk of up to 20 years in prison for those that "conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force" the government.

The charges follow a speech from Attorney General Merrick Garland a day before the anniversary of the attack, in which he defended the department's prosecutorial efforts amid complaints they were moving too slowly to target leaders who may have prompted the attack on the Capitol.

This was all for the headlines. Political prosecution at its finest.

What's funny is that the defense trotted out by the committee mouth pieces for Ray Epps... he never entered the capitol so he committed no crime... applies to this guy as well.

These charges are very rare, and the last set (Obama DOJ) got tossed out. But I'm sure the dnc bots on here will spike the football and use this as "proof" of a coup. ~I'm sure this guy was probably taking orders from Trump himself.~

What a bunch of political theater.

So hypocritical. I know nothing of the Oath Keepers, but I do know a group that has done more than they, but it was (D)ifferent.

Did they find weapons that were supposedly going to be used? How were they going to execute their "seditious overthrow" without them?

I agree with the poster above. This is fodder for the media to continue to gaslight that event distracting from Biden's abysmal approval ratings and job performance and the Dems failure to get any of their pet legislation launched.

Didn't Pelosi go behind Trumps back and talk to military leaders about preventing Trump from launching nukes? Where are the charges for her?

77. Just before 1:30 p.m. on the Leadership Intel Chat, in response to a claim by an Oath Keepers affiliate that Antifa had breached the Capitol, RHODES replied, "Nope. I'm right here. These are Patriots." RHODES then messaged the Leadership Signal Chat, "Pence's doing nothing. AsT predicted." RHODES added, "All I see Trump doing is complaining. I see no intent by him to do anything. So the patriots are taking it into their own hands. They've had enough."
I thought they took orders from Trump?

Quote from Adam Kinzinger on Epps not being charged:

Quote:

The question is, and again this is for the DOJ, what is the threshold with what do you charge? Is it different than, say, somebody that maybe in the heat of the moment says, "We need to go into the Capitol." With DOJ, I don't know all the evidence of whether [Epps] did or didn't.

I wonder if Adam will extend these guys the same "heat of the moment" defense he gave Epps!?

its an indictment, so its one sided and could be refuted by the defendants, but if the allegations are true (and thats a big "if" based on Biden DOJ history) then these people deserve jail. these were nothing close to "peaceful protestors"

11 people indicted, so based on standard Fed operating procedures, roughly 33

I think were gonna see the other glowies indicted as well, they just need to finish the golden parachute contracts.

500K-1MM per inciter, in exchange for 6 months of jail, is easy money for the swamp especially given the epstein alternative for not accepting.

LOL, this. How do I join? Are these similar to the III% guys you see driving around town? Both groups seem like good patriots who love their country and respect and want to preserve the constitution. And the ADL describes them as "dangerous far right anti-government extremists" so I know they're probably mostly good working class family men you'd love to slam beers with.

so the Oath Keepers are seditionists. Even though they didn't enter the building, their conduct or speech convinced meemaw to enter the building and take selfies, which was a threat to democracy and almost overthrew our government. I sense a very strong message will be sent by the government. American people are not allowed to be angry about their corruption.

In addition to Rhodes and Vallejo, those named in the indictment include nine previously charged defendants

Eight other individuals affiliated with the Oath Keepers, all previously charged in the investigation, remain as defendants in two related cases. All defendants except Rhodes and Vallejo previously were charged in a superseding indictment.

The three indictments collectively charge all 19 defendants with corruptly obstructing an official proceeding. Eighteen of the 19 defendants the exception is Walden are charged with conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding and conspiring to prevent an officer of the United States from discharging a duty. Eleven of the 19 defendants are charged with seditious conspiracy. Some of the defendants are also facing other related charges.

This is in my neighborhood lol.

We've had helicopters flying around all morning and we've seen FBI, ATF and other marked cars drive through. I was wondering what was going on but when I walked down the street there were patrol cars blocking it and I was asked to go back to my home

Do you know the guy?

Elmer Stewart Rhodes III, 56, of Granbury, Texas, who is the founder and leader of the Oath Keepers. Rhodes was arrested this morning in Little Elm, Texas

He seems very patriotic. Recruits fellow ex military who have also fought and defended the freedoms we thought this country stood for to help fight against tyranny and corruption.. too bad his love for freedom is about to cost him the rest of his life.

How do you transport weapons into the insurrection after its already started? How would that even work? Were they going to teleport them in star trek style?

I have no problem with this, other than the fact that left wing seditionists would not receive the same treatment. That's the real problem I have with Mr. "We don't track antifa" Garland. He's a partisan scum bag, so I take any indictments of his against right wing people with a big grain of salt. Distrust in our justice department and media is the fault of scum bag liberals and their acceptance of double standards for political gain.
