The author did complain about the cost and number of psychological screenings, even in California. I wouldn't use her as the poster child of mental stability for a sexual reassignment surgery though. If she could get it based in her past issues, anyone should be able to.

When A person's mind with anorexia believes they are overweight, even though their body and medical evidence tells them they aren't, we don't try to change the body to match the mind and encourage them to continue to transition their body to what their mind feels it should be.

At least they don't as of now, but I don't know if that will always be the case.
