DFW is a mess because they are down to one tower due to ATC staffing. As bad as they can be, this one isn't American's fault

If I can't fly business class or to Europe/Asia at best you're the Aldi of the skies. Clean, efficient, and well kept but you won't always have what I need.

What do you need overseas? Hookers that let you go down on them?

Southwest is not the HEB of airlines. they are at best the Walmart of airlines.

We had a flight from SXM to DFW today. Departs 1445. Had to get the LGB Antigen tests to enter my own country and finished that up at 1215 - was in line for AA at 1245, two hrs prior to departure. Line was a cluster**** (even the lady trying to help us move faster said it's a 3rd world country).

Didn't get to the CHECK IN desk until 1415...sorry folks, the check in is finished for that flight, moose outside should have told you. Guess you're not getting on THAT plane. 45 min later, I have a flight to MIA and a STANDBY to DFW at 0700 tomorrow morning. Yeah...Like anybody ever made standby in MIA during the holidays.

And that flight is just to get me to DFW. But, I've got a 1230 flight from DFW to CRP (purchased separately from the SXM trip because $$$).

So, now I'm sitting in a hotel in Miami with the phone on hold trying to get things fixed since I've found flights that could get us from here to DFW and DFW to CRP that have seats available tomorrow.

ETA (2358 EST): I'm (finally) on a flight to DFW at at 2130 tomorrow. So, I have to book ANOTHER hotel room, we fly out at 1230, get to CRP at 1400 and neither of us gets to work on time on Jan 3.

tl;dr

I avoided any **** shows at DFW

Hedge, it's a generational thing. When you were just a twinkle in your parents eyes, Southwest was nicknamed Southworst and Continental was untouchable as the best airline.

I am so sorry - I can easily relate.

If a day ends in y then it is likely a miserable day @ DFW for at least a few thousand AA pax.

ATC staff shortages were an issue before hand. Covid basically put gasoline on the fire.

Singapore Air at least 10 years ago would retire flights attendants at 30 and I heard their CEO explicitly state that. Besides the attractiveness factor, there is just so many times you can get someone a drink before you just don't care anymore.

Dear God can Lufthansa just buy all American Airlines.

And can KLM just take over Delta?
Maybe Singapore Airlines can just buy them all?

Best airline in the world. There is no competition.

The major European airlines aren't any better service on short-haul flights, and in some ways they're worse than AA, United, and Delta.

Southwest is the only airline that has lost my gate checked carry on. Gate checked it in OAK on my flight to SEA, only to have the bag go to PHX.

Yep. Wife and I flew Air France from Zurich to Paris to catch our AA flight home, and when I walked into the plane, the scene from Major League entered my head. I've never been on a domestic flight from one of the Big 4 that was that bad.

IMO, you can't judge an airline by the international flights, because those are really good. The AA flight to and from Paris was top notch.

my experience has been better on non-flag carriers believe it or not.

My experience on Lufthansa, Air France, and Turkish on the whole were generally better for domestic European travel than domestic American carriers. The difference isn't huge but I think it boils down to flight crews that are at least less cynical than domestic crews.

2 to start by 1 was quickly sacrificed once we reached altitude.
