Salvation Army issues alert, donations have dropped substantially

"There are many reasons why both financial and toy donations are down this year, not the least of which is likely pandemic fatigue and concerns about employment and the future," said Colonel Cindy Foley of the NW Salvation Army Division. "We are actually trying to provide food, shelter, toys and clothing to double the number of families we served last Christmas, and in the midst of the growing need we are seeing fewer people donating at our virtual and physical kettles."

Not only is the nonprofit organization short on donations, they also are in desperate need of bell ringers to staff the red kettles seen at businesses around the country.

"The situation is dire, and we are asking our generous supporters in the region to donate to the virtual Northwest Red Kettle as well as make donations at every physical kettle in whatever way you can."

Seems like something is missing in that explanation.

So calling the greatest portion of your donor base irredeemably racist isn't good marketing?

I am sure that wealthy and working class POC will step in and shore up their finances with a virtual deluge of donations. <crickets>

I am sure there are some Bible verses the Salvation Arm can turn to for their current predicament.

11 Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister[a] or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But youwho are you to judge your neighbor?

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God; for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God." So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.

"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye.

Newsflash.

Conservatives aren't racists.

And they are the most generous givers of both volunteer time and money.

Create training materials calling them racists or citing materials from authors that are on the record as calling them racists at your own peril.

Maybe all those self-loathing white liberals will pick up the slack. They love to preach about generosity and taking care of others. Surely they will be leading that charge, right?

A Christian organization should know how to deal with this situation:

It's a shame that families have to suffer because of the actions of others. I'm sure they couldn't care less who was giving or why, or why the help stopped.

So much for the Christmas spirit, or Jesus being the reason for the season.

I'm giving, just not to anti white racist organizations. I wouldn't expect black folks to give to a charity run by the KKK.

I will, and thanks for the idea. What gets me about them is they've always seemed to want to cater to one group of people to get donations from, and now are wanting to switch , without taking into consideration of how they should do it to not alienate the ones who've been with them forever.

Honestly I'm too the point where I'll just look for people in need on my own and help them out that way because it seems like every organization has an angle and a political leaning, and the truly needy shouldn't be affected by the idiocy of a few.

your local church probably has member families in need of clothes, toys or food.
you can either give money/items to them, or ask for a name and give stuff directly to those families.
