Since this engineering firm is of course full of """"female engineers"""" they probably got tons of these types of jobs. Which idiots should we blame for not immediately firing these morons from this job.

Just absolutely incredible that they are still working. I know I'm never going to feel safe driving over that bridge now.

Why fabricate on site? This makes no sense to me. The fabrication process is pretty exacting and reguires several days to cure and setup in additional to specialized equipment.

It just seems stupid

Female engineers likely have zero to do with bad work.

Having company Executive officers and senior management focused on diversity rather than results likely has direct correlation of bad work.

Nothing wrong with competent and qualified female engineers.

The problem is the favorable selection of engineering candidates and engineering employees and engineering business based on identity politics instead of demonstrated competency and ability.

Gender doesn't determine individual ability with respect to intellectual pursuits, but it is a poor selection criterion when competency is potentially a life or death matter.

A buddy that does design work over on Houston has been talking about this for years. As soon as the bridge in Florida collapsed, another firm basically took the design for the beltway bridge and reviewed the engineering from the ground up. I wouldn't worry too much about it, anymore than you usually do driving over a bridge like that.

Yep.

Which is why they stopped work on it. TxDOT wanted FIGG removed from the contract. Don't know the status of that demand but doesn't look like they've worked on it in awhile.

probably because the county is full of the dumb and agreed to a "no buyout clause" for lack of a better term, that states the county is responsible for costs if the contract is terminated for any reason

Only thing I'm not wild about is the same entity that did the study on FIGGS work is the same one that was awarded the job. Seems like a conflict of interest.

FIGG only designed the free span over the water, which is structurally the most challenging/demanding but it isn't that long. Not sure if they found someone else to redo or back check the design of that span.

Well at least that's a part I never go to. I live in Bryan now but I occasionally hit Houston for different areas or scoot over to Galveston some. But even when I live there I never really went there.

I wonder how many of you questioning a person's abilities and competency are engineers.

Gender and/or skin color have jack squat to do competency. Y'all are an embarrassment.

Have any of you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the reason you see so many white and Asian male engineers is simply due to numbers?

Good gawd, I swear some of you jackwagons post like you wish it were still the 1950s.
