In the '80s, there were law review articles written about a term called "graymail." It was about people that were being prosecuted for whatever but knew classified info and planned to release that info if they went to trial. The government was in a pickle: they wanted to convict these people for whatever they were charged with but couldn't risk the info coming out due to national security concerns. I don't recall how any of cases that were cited in the law review articles came out (if I ever even knew) because I was only interested in the national security impacts as we used the issue in HS debate rounds and only as it related to national security and nuclear proliferation. It was our way of connecting criminal court reform to nuclear war!

In this case, if the judge is not going to allow names, she has no bargaining power and essentially is not receiving a fair trial IF her counsel can show that the names are relevant to her defense. I can't see how such a burden would be difficult since they would go toward most of the relevant facts of the case. This is an open trial, is it not?
