Agreed. Based on the amount of smoke in the area that is illuminated by the blast, it looks like whatever blew up was burning before the explosion.

Now THAT is interesting. If China is wavering it all comes crashing down. Russia can't pull this off without Chinese support. We will see.

My point still stands though that as of now Europe is very dependent on Russia for energy and there is no realistic way to fix that short term. So essentially they have to hope the heat gets really hot, really fast, and Putin backs down. If China is giving Russia a lifeline they can last a lot longer, without China though Russia can't make it if they are truly isolated.

Dagen McDowell was on Hemmer and Dana's show this morning and she mentioned something interesting.

Several years ago we cut off buying any oil from Venezuela (Citgo) and turned towards Russia replacements. We could flip that and buy from Venezuela again. She thought that would be purely an optics move as she presumed China would cover the slack were we to do it.

But in light of this pull back by China? Might be worthwhile to explore further.
