That one does seem a bit of a shocker...but maybe NATO is much stronger than I gave it credit for.

What would prompt Turkey to take a stance? Or do they just want to look supportive without doing isht?
Not sure, hence why I think it is odd considering Russia and Turkey have a sizeable arms deal going on.

Bottle up the Russian fleet by shutting down the straits, then.

Seriously, a camouflage face mask, I mean seriously. What a pathetic excuse for a military general. What does this idiot think, he is going to be doing the fighting in the jungle, what a joke.

Want to really hurt Vlady?

Soviet's export $6B of steel to the US on an annual basis. We also import approx $11B of oil and related products. In addition they own and operate three relatively large plate and coil mills in the US.
Peace for Ukraine!

If that's the administration's answer, then they should apply sanctions immediately. Don't want for the EU/NATO to get all kinds of iffy and want to back out. Russia has effectively invaded Ukraine under the pretense of being "peace keepers" in regions they just recognized.

The greatest travesty in all of this is how weak nato, un and us are.

The un has been worthless, nato is a paper tiger and Biden has turned the military into a blm, mask wearing organization not focused on killing the enemy.

They restrict Russian trade to the benefit of their investments. If they open up fracking and oil production, then it's geopolitical. Otherwise it's a money grab. We are setting the financial price for this deal and Putin will pay it indirectly.

Ukraine is lost. Best bet is to fund the insurgency while the rest of Europe gets their S together real quick. Europe has gotten a free ride in defense in the era of American deterrence while Putin has been seething and planning for years. This should be a wake up call for our SE Asia and Pacific allies as well.

Did we really want to go to war in Ukraine? Or should we be keeping an eye on China/Taiwan?

We're really going to hang those poor people out to dry. We strung them along with "tough talk" about support and solidarity and we never meant a damn word of any of it. This is unconscionable. We killed people. We ARE killing people. Civilians who might have evacuated but that believed we might do something that would make a difference stayed in the face of this and could now be absolutely obliterated. We won't even impose sanctions that have teeth.

We'll go to ******* Iraq and Afghanistan for bull**** reasons that didn't accomplish **** but get our guys killed but we can't even stand up FINANCIALLY for a country of people who want to accomplish what we're privileged enough to have been given. And lied about it. We're more afraid of imposing sanctions than Putin is of receiving them. I really never thought we would be so gutless and chicken***** I feel ill.

President Biden's administration is a complete and total failure. There will be many lives forfeited in numerous foreign lands because of this corrupt, unethical and amoral Democratic Party leadership. Ukraine is lost, more to come in the next couple of years.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

He's already won. The grandstanding from these idiots saying we stand together and we will hit them with sanctions………..Putin is laughing his ass off at that. He respects and understands one thing, demonstrations of force designed to kill. Since no one has the balls to do that, he's going to do whatever he wants.

No, we don't want war in either locations but it looks like Russia is really pushing the limits invading under the pretense of peace keeping. Russia is now occupying sovereign Ukrainian land effectively. We cannot legitimize this.

However, the European NATO powers needs to be leading the way here since they're going to be the ones who will feel the most impact. But I think they're going to be fine sacrificing part of Ukraine for Russian supplied energy.

We should always keep an eye on our enemies. China isn't sleeping on this. They're watching and how the rest of the world reacts to Putin/Russia and Ukraine will frame their actions for Taiwan. Our Pacific partners are also going to be watching closely to us how we react.

I don't want to sound hyperbolic but I believe what we are seeing is the beginning of a new Iron Curtain.

This will find its way back to our doorstep one day. And we'll be treated in kind. If NATO and EU will do this to them then we'll do it to each other if we think it'll save our sorry asses. Now Putin knows, China knows, and so do we.

Yes. Israel or rather the people who settled there after the Holocaust, know not rely on anyone else reliably coming to their aid and defense.

They learned that lesson during the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956. Britain and France bailed on them. Because of the US.

Quote:

The response of President Dwight Eisenhower's administration was measured. It warned the Soviets that reckless talk of nuclear conflict would only make matters worse, and cautioned Khrushchev to refrain from direct intervention in the conflict. However, Eisenhower (1890-1969) also issued stern warnings to the French, British and Israelis to give up their campaign and withdraw from Egyptian soil.

Eisenhower was upset with the British, in particular, for not keeping the United States informed about their intentions. The United States threatened all three nations with economic sanctions if they persisted in their attack. The threats did their work. The British and French forces withdrew by December; Israel finally bowed to U.S. pressure in March 1957, relinquishing control over the canal to Egypt.

Do we not realize that via this course we're rendering the concept of "sovereignty" meaningless? Or perhaps that's the goal.

Not in a market sense. They still need trade. Doubt Putin is going to go down the widespread famine route like Stalin was.

Un statement: we strongly advise Putin to not invade Ukraine but we can't do anything about it. Good luck Ukraine.
