So, they lied their asses off about GOF research, but we are supposed to believe them that there is no way that this research wasn't used to make COVID?

Why, oh why, should we believe them?

Disclaimer: I fully believe Fauci and co. should be behind bars at minimum.

But somebody help me make sense of the NIH letter. The letter states that Eco/WIV were investigating whether or not naturally occurring bat coronaviruses could infect human ACE2 receptors. That in and of itself is not malicious and what I would deem to be a relatively reasonable experiment, so long as they do not manipulate the virus samples to be potentially more infectious or capable of infecting human receptors.

In other words: Eco/WIV were trying to asses if there are naturally occurring viruses that could jump species. If so, did the virus make the infected host sick? Yes or no? While it sounds bad, that type of research happens all the time, and has potential benefits to identifying potentially harmful pathogens.

However, Eco/WIV were ordered, as part of the grant, to immediately report "a one log increase in growth". They did not, and that's why they are in violation of the grant terms.

What is deemed "a one log increase in growth"? The fact that SHC014 WIV-1 infected mice became sick?

Additional confusion: The article does not clearly state if the SHC014 WIV-1 bat coronavirus that made the humanized mice sick is naturally occurring. The letter specifically states WIV-1 is naturally occurring on the second page of the letter.

Eco/WIV could be in a metric **** ton of trouble if they were using enhanced bat viruses. They're already in trouble for not reporting the "one log growth", but that seems to be similar to a process crime in the world of scientific research. I'm sure it's not that simplistic, so somebody more knowledgeable on these types of studies please correct me as applicable.

So for people who didn't read the actual letter. The NIH is still standing by the fact that it had nothing to do with Cov-2 and that the funding wasn't supposed to be gain of function, but the Eco-health didn't report any gain of function in the time frame that they were supposed to.

In summary, we weren't doing gain of function,.BUT we might have done gain of function.
This is what I took away from the letter as well. They don't fully admit to GoF. They only admit that Eco/WIV did not disclose an "unintended GoF outcome" after the SHC014 WIV-1 infected mice became sick.

Nice summary of what they did……

Quote:

this grant application is 75 pages long and much of it is technically dense, but the key takeaway is pretty straightforward:
Daszak was in wuhan, working or planning to work with many of the folks that got embroiled in this controversy and clearly had been and sought to work on the exact viruses that become covid-19. His fascination (and that of his peers) was evident and his thought for safety and consequences near absent. Hotwiring a virus and spreading it (or some poorly tested inoculum based on it) to wild bats to "see what happens with viral shedding" is batpoo insane. It's the plot of a marvel supervillain, not the province of the DoD, who (sensibly) seem to have failed to fund this.
But Fauci did. He funded these same folks through the NIH. and, until 2020, no one was hiding it.

This report is what Gupta must have known about. It is why he must of thought in his mind that he was prepared to be interviewed with Rogan. The letter exactly lays out the narrative that Gupta tried to follow. Thanks to Joe Rogan for asking questions that blew up Guptas plan.

The claim is that it was not gain of function that was being used in Wuhan. using a strict scientific definition.that says GOF is when two purposefully bad viruses are spliced together. To get a enhance outcome.

Fauci claim is they were a only using one bad virus the other was not a bad virus. Therefore no GOF. WHICH IS BS.

Also saying that the Bat vestsion did not cause COVIID. That has been an accepted view for a long while. That claim has ZERO BEARING weather a GOF experiment cause COVID19. They are gaslighting to create this false outcome that Wuhan connection is a non story.

Those bunch need to hang.

I'd be surprised if they did. The problem they have is Fauci has been the face man for the government concerning Covid. If he is arrested and prosecuted it will bring to question what other lies they have been spreading. Then their mask and vaccine mandates start to crumble and they lose the control over the population they have gained from all of this.

IIRC, his statements were evasive and purposefully phrased to try and skirt away from the meaningful part of the questioning. It was entirely obvious that he knew he had been caught and was trying to torture facts to avoid directly lying.

The particulars are different, but it went something like: "NAIAD research funds were never appropriated to conduct bat coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology".

When the truth was something like, some non-research funds from NAIAD were appropriated for general GoF research to EcoHealth Alliance who already had the deal setup with WIV. Same thing, but a few details changed to make what he said technically accurate, but entirely misleading.

Fauci paid for the largest disruption on the planet since WWII (with our money) and holds the patent for the fix that he uses his power in government to demand we all take and suppresses discussion of alternatives.

I'm not seeing another plausible scenario here, dude f'd up as big as anyone could ever F up and he's got powerful friends and rich pharma $ working overtime to cover his ass.

Money is fungible. If you are in any way funding a lab that is conducting gain of function research, you are funding gain of function research. I don't care what supposed stipulations came with the $$$. They are meaningless. That money helped fund a lab that was making viruses more dangerous to humans and that lab is without a doubt the source of the current covid virus. Period.

This author got banned from Twitter for putting a lot of pieces together. He never lied, never called for anything violent or weird, never even advocated against vaccines or anything, but he laid out some really damning arguments and Twitter pulled the plug on him without explanation or warning and no ability to appeal. I think he's an economist that may be Puerto Rican, otherwise he's just an anonymous dude on the internet that pretends to be a cat.

Somewhere, someone said, "shut that guy down". He's worth following, some of his stuff is a bit schtick-y, but I do the same to entertain myself through such a horrid set of facts.

You mean, you don't believe that the NIH money was just paying for the bar tab at the fundraiser for orphans, and whatever else EcoHealth Alliance was funding and sending emails about was just some sort of side gig of theirs that NIH had nothing to do with?

Funding GOF. They were splicing cleavage sites to other corona viruses. It might not have been this one but to think that a wild @#*$@ group funding GOF on viruses at a lab in the same city that seems to be the origin point of the outbreak that was studying multiple of these types of viruses and has a history of imperfect containment is kinda suspicious right?

Asking questions of a group that wanted to release untested viruses into a wild animal population that has a history of zoological spread and interacts with human populations over a huge area that crosses multiple countries that are connected to lots of transit hubs is probably just supporting conspiracy theorists.

Why would you want to ask any questions about that?

In a way, yes.

The letter is trying to be very specific to the following:
  • Eco/WIV was authorized to research naturally occurring bat coronaviruses
  • Eco/WIV was ordered to report any unanticipated findings (referred to as "a one log growth)
  • An "unintended GoF outcome" was observed when infected mice became sick (yet the letter does not clearly state whether the virus those mice were infected with was naturally occurring - it only gives the name of the virus: SHC014 WIV-1)
  • Eco/WIV did not report the one log growth, in fact they still haven't officially, and are in breach of the grant rules
  • Eco/WIV was given 5 days to turn over all documentation regarding this "one log growth"
  • NIH still maintains the viruses studied during the grant time period cannot be the origination/parent of Sars-Cov-2 due to differences in their genes.

The first & final bullets may be true, but there are far too many inconsistencies, half-truths, blatant lies, and obfuscations from Eco/WIV/NIH/NIAID, etc. to simply allow them to skate away on this tune. The letter is attempting to bolster Fauci's claim that NIH/NIAID never authorized GoF research, but rather a GoF result was an unintended result of the study.

The fact Eco/WIV did not report the GoF outcome as required casts an even darker shadow over those entities and the activities they were doing at the WIV.

In short... where there is smoke...

Did some internet sleuthing, and this was the very first hit:

A SARS-like cluster of circulating bat coronaviruses shows potential for human emergence

From 2015.

Evidently SHC014 WIV-1 was a naturally occurring virus in horseshoe bats.

Yet in 2018 - 2019 Eco/WIV experienced an "unanticipated" GoF illness in mice when such an outcome was already identified in the 2015 study linked above.

Not a good look for Eco/WIV...
