Congress is exempt, functionally. They pretended to pass a law removing their exemption in 2012, but notably didn't include any criminal penalties, if ever caught.

It's very difficult to ever prove they acquire information 'in the course of their job/duties' solely, as opposed to talking with others etc., and somewhat suicidal for a USA or SEC type to go after a member. Hence, it's basically unsettled in the courts, even 9 years on, and in truth the power brokers on both sides of the aisle all do it.

We have made our politicians rock star status, instead of public servants. They now do what they want, and folks still vote for them while they become rich and pick their pockets. The poor get hosed in this, as they believe, and the more they go backwards, the more these liars say it is the rich who hold them back. Division is all they accomplish now, outside of becoming super rich themselves.

Wouldn't work. Not only would you have to prove insider trading knowledge/info gained in performance of their duties (vague as public hearings etc. wouldn't count), but you'd also have to have a class of investors then who could demonstrate they were harmed by the trade(s) in question.

They're not all dumb, they're just parasites.
