IIRC, this is a major part of the theory on how Biggie was killed and why the murderer never saw justice.

Yeah, I'm more inclind to believe LAPD is a bigger problem than the sheriff deputies. Remember that the Sheriff is the guy that went against the mask mandates. I'm sure they have a problem with cops being part of gangs, but I'm not buying that it's to the level the article implies.

Answer me this: If they all have gang tats, then why not fire all the deputies with gang tats?

Because the LA Sheriffs office did not enforce mask and vaccination requirements at restaurants and other public places

Likely civil servant and union protections. The department would need to prove that they're a criminal organization and that each member being fired either committed criminal acts or knew of the organizations criminality. You'd need criminal investigative and convictions. Otherwise, they're just really close guys with matching tats.

And the sheriff's office not enforcing mask mandates doesn't mean anything in regards to the deputies. There's 11,000 deputies, and they stay regardless of who the sheriff is.

By definition criminal gangs within the department are extrajudicial. They don't have anything to do with setting official policy. Unless the sheriff is running all of these gangs, which no one is alleging, the two have nothing to do with each other.

Because they weren't in the gang when they were hired. The gangs exist within the department and force membership through harassment and tactics similar to unions.

Leadership maybe but not rank and file.......

I don't have time right now to read the Rand report this article is based on. But reading the summary I am inclined to think these groups are not what the article portrays. Maybe they are. But when only 15% of respondents in a anonymous survey think the groups violate LASD policies that doesn't sound like a criminal gang

This stuff goes on a lot. The former sherif of Williamson county was doing things rogue from what the the county commission and county judge had directed. It's an elected position so not much could be done except tarnish his reputation for the next election cycle
