First the embassy tells everyone to shelter in place because of sporadic gunfire at the airport and not to even try to get to the embassy.

Now they are saying, "Too bad, so sad you didn't make it to the airport!?

So yesterday US officials told Americans to "shelter in place." Today it is, "Dayum! Sorry y'all didn't make it to the airport!"

Has any administration ever been more inept? Where are the adults? What the hell is wrong with Biden?

It won't be long until we have videos of Americans getting beheaded by Taliban fighters.

Are any flights still getting in and out?

I do feel that the 10k Americans had plenty of opportunity to leave prior to this week but that doesn't change the circumstance. Have to get them out somehow.

Most are likely DOD and State Department contractors who were directly supporting US/NATO forces; ANA/ANAF maintenance/training; or US State Department programs all over the country. You assume too much.

Yes. The embassy instructed them to shelter in place and fill out a form on the web.

Now they all get an auto-reply saying "try your luck at getting to the airport on your own and maybe we'll have a flight."

The Taliban have agreed to provide safe passage. There is almost no way they would've sent that out for people to put in harms way without that deal in place.

From Al Jazeera:

That means they were told to spend days staying where they were - thereby allowing the Taliban to gain ever more control of all access routes, roads, and likely every possible path to the airport.

So now, a few days later the Biden admin says, "Psych! You should come to the airport now that you can't!"

I think the Taliban will allow Americans to go to the airport safely. I believe they would happily and safely give them a ride.

The sooner the Americans are gone, the sooner the Taliban can get down to business. Any rogue Taliban kills an American or two and they might worry we'll stay.

I am curious to know how many are dual citizen Afghan/US? I would imagine they will have a more difficult time getting to the airport.
