People who have immigrated here since WWII don't have any connection to the past history of this country. Why would any of them care if some statues were removed or some land renamed or some portion of American history changed because some Johnny come lately got offended? These things all make me angry because this is my family's history that they are erasing. They want to make my country a place where it would appear as if my ancestors never existed.
Perhaps you do feel you are American, but America is far more than just a feeling. It is a nation of people with its own history.
Every immigrant group met people like that were already there 'gatekeeping'. The Irish, Italians etc were all discriminated against. Every new group was considered outsiders and not welcome.
It's basically a rite of passage at this point and quite normal.
And hey, if they agree with getting rid of a slave supporting traitorous flags and statues that killed 750 thousand Americans, awesome! Adjusting to America's ideals already.
The Irish and Italians lived on the frontier and experienced that time. Tejanos as well. Hell even many Chinese experienced it.
The rite of passage was the Frontier time period, anything after that was people coming after the nation was built and settled.
