Every immigrant group met people like that were already there 'gatekeeping'. The Irish, Italians etc were all discriminated against. Every new group was considered outsiders and not welcome.

It's basically a rite of passage at this point and quite normal.

The Irish and Italians lived on the frontier and experienced that time. Tejanos as well. Hell even many Chinese experienced it.

The rite of passage was the Frontier time period, anything after that was people coming after the nation was built and settled.

My Dad's father fought the Japanese in the Philippines, survived Bataan, and moved his family to the States after the war. My Mother's father fought in Korea, and was ostracized by his family because he married a Japanese woman...

My family has been involved in just about every conflict since WWII. I think we have a pretty good idea about what it is to be an American and have been willing to pay for it in our own blood...

No, I really don't. My family goes back to Jamestown and every single other early settlement in the Northeast. I have direct connections to the American Revolution, the Texas Revolution, and the Civil War, not to mention the numerous conflicts with the Natives (e.g. Comanche raids and much more). To you, these are things that happened in the past, to me these are things my family experienced and bled for.

The US post WWII has been nothing but prosperous. It was the dominant power of the world. The US during its Frontier days was often considered a backwater and went through immense struggles. The two nations could not be more different.

I could immigrate to China and become a citizen, claim to love the country but I would have no understanding of what it would mean to have a connection to the Qing dynasty or the Mongol rule. It would mean nothing to me because I have no connection to any of it. I may love China as it is today but it would be shallow in comparison to those who ancestors built that nation.

Then we agree to disagree.

With various races marrying and/or having kids, there is literally no reason to even care what someone's race is, never really should have been other than healthcare risks.
