I posted this on another thread but think it's worthy of its own discussion

https://www.city-journal.org/do-masks-work-a-review-of-the-evidence

Quote:

In truth, the CDC's, U.K.'s, and WHO's earlier guidance was much more consistent with the best medical research on masks' effectiveness in preventing the spread of viruses. That research suggests that Americans' many months of mask-wearing has likely provided little to no health benefit and might even have been counterproductive in preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Quote:

RCTs are uniformly regarded as the gold standard in medical research, yet the CDC basically ignores them apart from disparaging certain ones that particularly contradict the agency's position. In a "Science Brief" highlighting studies that "demonstrate that mask wearing reduces new infections" and serving as the main public justification for its mask guidance, the CDC provides a helpful matrix of 15 studiesnone RCTs. The CDC instead focuses strictly on observational studies completed after Covid-19 began.

Quote:

In sum, of the 14 RCTs that have tested the effectiveness of masks in preventing the transmission of respiratory viruses, three suggest, but do not provide any statistically significant evidence in intention-to-treat analysis, that masks might be useful. The other eleven suggest that masks are either uselesswhether compared with no masks or because they appear not to add to good hand hygiene aloneor actually counterproductive. Of the three studies that provided statistically significant evidence in intention-to-treat analysis that was not contradicted within the same study, one found that the combination of surgical masks and hand hygiene was less effective than hand hygiene alone, one found that the combination of surgical masks and hand hygiene was less effective than nothing, and one found that cloth masks were less effective than surgical masks.

Much more detail and summary in the article.

Only the hyper partisan left still believe a dirty piece of cloth keeps people safe from a respiratory virus

Mask at best offer no statistical advantage to no mask and at worse increase your chances to get covid.

Yet, here we are having a juvenile fight over appearance instead of results.

We've conducted a worldwide study for 18 months where we've had some populations with strict masking, some none, and some in between. Everyone got covid at similar rates. They dont work.

Even the guy that started the mega thread on masks at the beginning of the pandemic has given up the fight.

A true warrior of warriors that claimed it was a "hill he was willing to die on" says they are useless now. So embarrassing that the thread went 20+ pages with people praising his efforts to get everyone masked up to save lives. It was all 100% bunk.

Tell that to the leadership at the major I'm working with at the moment. Masks on even at your F-ing desk after a small outbreak out in the fab yard a few weeks ago. Got my hand slapped twice yesterday.

No, that's not even accurate.

Surgical masks are intended to stop bacterial infections.

N95 mask, properly used, offer benefit to doctors or those wearing them.

A cloth mask or cheap blue surgical masks, even new and clean, offers zero protection to those wearing them or those around them. They probably increase the chance of getting the virus.

Rand Paul shared this earlier, and the libtards on twitter IMMEDIATELY jumped all over him for it.

Questioning his medical credentials. Accusing him of insider trading (Gilead).

This country is doomed. The battle lines are too firmly entrenched. Truth doesn't matter anymore. Only tribalism.

Here's a very deceptive and misleading article from CNN today

https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/12/health/covid-19-schools-openings-masks-wellness/index.html

Basically, the article claims there is a tangible difference between schools that started with a mask mandate and those which didn't, their spread rates and so on.

The problem is they claim it's science and common sense about why there may be differences in outcome. It's solely due to mask. However, they aren't using anything other than shallow observation or ancedotal claims to male their point.

They fail to consider it could be (and likely is) a multitude of other factors like ventilation.
