Just talked to one of my sons and learned he's participating in a career fair tomorrow to network and look for opportunities to advance his career. Nothing unusual about that, but he shared that he recently joined the women's, black, and gay associations for his profession in order to gain access to the best career fairs. Apparently that's where the recruiters are all going due to wokeness, but the plain ole white guys have caught on and are swelling their ranks. They're not prevented from participating,.. at least yet.

have him make up some new and exciting gender, like the libs do.

that will likely score him extra points.

As a former employee of a woke company, I don't think this will work out for your son and his friends the way he thinks it will.

Good luck to him though.

Youd assume wrong, I always found the focus on certain groups problematic though I can't think of a single time a woman or minority was hired without meeting/exceeding qualifications or instead of a more qualified white male candidate.

I just don't think a (presumably) white guy showing up to a women's or minority student group is going to endear him to the hiring managers. I can't imagine any scenario where he would be asked what part of the alphabet mafia he's in would come up in an LGBT group setting with a hiring manager so he may be OK there as long as he doesn't say anything foolish.

Without wokeness, or old school affirmative action, would the "diverse" candidate actually be more "qualified"? How many positions over the years were directly due to their diverseness or at the very least indirectly due to their diverseness?

Conversely, how many positions did the straight, white male get gifted to him? Maybe there's still some good ole boy clubs out there, but in most Fortune 500 companies over the last 20 years, the straight, white male has to be materially above-and-beyond the "diverse" competition to land a job or promotion.

I did this in college once.

I got 15 interviews at the career fair. Only 3 of them lasted longer than 5 minutes.

However, if an enterprising young man dresses up as a girl and shows up to some of those conferences, he can likely be in like Flynn, and then mumble something about gender fluidity on the second month of the job when he returns to being a young man.

are you involved in recruiting with a medium or large company? As a hiring manager, I would hold nothing against this poser. I've seen members of black student organizations that weren't black, and guys that joined women society. It hardly gets a double take when reviewing resumes any more.

Wokeness is hurting my employer big-time. We got a lot of morons all over the place and they have to mischarge, look at porn, or commit treason to get fired. Being a dumbass who screws up every project they touch is not enough.

They changed the name to "affinity groups" because they had turned into their own de facto self segregation. They didn't like when one guy said he like asians and tried to join the Asian affinity group, though.

I've seen plenty of unqualified women and minorities hired and they fail miserably on the job. Then they get fired for poor performance and the numbers look even worse.

I think you guys are missing the brilliance of this. This is trying to give the employers what they want... They want a perfectly normal person who does the job the way it should be done, but they also want to check boxes. If they can have a "transgendered black gay" person who also just is a normal person who talks football, goes for drinks after work and doesn't get offended by everything, that is the unicorn.

Now do medical school (or any professional school). I know for a fact that there are female and minority candidates with lesser qualifications getting in over white males. I know someone who does med school admissions at a school in Texas. White males and Asians are taking it on the chin. Either the admissions officers do this or get fired.

Another son of mine just barely got into dental school despite a near perfect standard admissions test. Entry standards are much lower for minorities. Early data point, but he just had his first major exam and he got the highest grade in the class. Hard work and competence still count for something in the real world.

I remember going to the National Association of Black MBA Conference many years ago as a recruiter. About 30% of the attendees were Asian.

It's certainly not prime hunting ground for a white guy to look for a job but there are a lot of hiring managers there who are hiring and many just want good people. Definitely need to handle things the right way though, for instance make sure the focus of conversation is that you are there because you are so interested in Company X and saw they would be there. Understand you will get some people who will be annoyed with you or brush you off completely as well.

It's amazing how the worm has turned. Thomas Sowell has often talked about how as a minority who went to Harvard before Affirmative Action was a thing he got massive respect from his peers and they knew he was one of the smartest guys around because they knew he had to get there over a lot of obstacles. Over time after AA took hold it was the complete opposite, people assumed he was a quota hire and didn't respect him.

Now you are going to see the same thing. If you are a white male who goes to an elite school or is a doctor you have to be significantly stronger than a minority or woman candidate. So the natural inclination is going to be to hire the white male over time.

It's kind of like how sexual harassment overkill has actually hurt women. Many male managers are concerned about mentoring a young bright female because if they do it can be construed the wrong way or it is simply too complicated when it comes to inviting them out for lunch or drinks, talking to them in their office alone, etc.

Amazes me that more people don't understand the natural results of these moronic liberal policies, they just live in a dream world that human nature will change.

Liberals do live in a dream world. And when humans dont change to their way of thinking, they become tyrants. Is it because lots of white liberals never have had to struggle financially, and are rich as hell, so they get these ideas of how WE ought to be?

He'll be fine. The big MBA fairs even 12 years ago were NSHMBA (Hispanic) and Black. All the white kids have to go to one or another if big corporations don't heavily recruit your school (think smaller school or smaller state) or you didn't have an internship somewhere. Everyone knows the deal and it's not a strike. It's a way to get exposure.

I walked up to Deloitte at NSHMBA and told them my GMAT score and about my language proficiency and internship abroad and was immediately given an open interview slot despite not applying beforehand (not a humble brag, just what happened). I blew the interview spectacularly within the first five minutes (not a great story, just the result of not prepping ahead of time and practicing case interviews) but that was on me.

Liberals see the world as they want it to be. Conservatives see the world for how it is.

Also agree with you that the problem with many white liberals is they have lived in a bubble and can't relate well to others. They either grew up rich and didn't have to work hard to succeed so they have guilt about it and feel the need to "help" others without actually thinking through how that "help" will work. Thus they virtue signal with things that don't actually help anyone but alleviate their own guilt by "raising awareness" or simply voting for things that sound nice and feel good but they are often counterproductive to solving the problem.

There are also white liberals that are highly intelligent and productive and they simply can't relate to people that aren't so they assume that people have good intentions and are easily duped. a

Most though just aren't overly political and the path of least resistance is to be a liberal.

This has been going on for a very long time. I was told in the 80's by the TAMU Co-op director that I could get hired by all the best companies if I was a minority or woman, but my options were very limited as a white male. Also, there's a reason the movie "Soul Man" was made in the 80's. Because that was a real thing. So, this has been going on for decades, but it's definitely accelerated in the last 20 years, and added the LGBTQ thing on top.

But when you have people scoring in the 80th percentile and can't even get interviews it's a problem. The preferred groups are significantly lower than that.
