To what practical (meaning useful) end is this massive push to get everyone vaccinated?
There is now no upside to getting vaccinated since the left wants to reinstitute mask mandates. Oh and you can still get the delta variant even if you have been vaccinated.
Full disclosure: I am fully vaccinated, and I think the hysteria around the vaccines is ridiculous. That said, the current "surge" in cases because of the delta variant is basically hitting people that have not been vaccinated (76%). The hospitals are not being overwhelmed (they're apparently not even whelmed, much less overly so), people aren't dying in the streets, and the death rate is not moving commensurate with the increase in cases. Oh, and it still has an astronomically high survival rate.
So remind me again why someone who is otherwise healthy and not in any "high risk" category should get the vaccine? Where is the up side for them? You want people to do something you have to give them some incentive to do so. "We really want to to do it" isn't going to get the job done.
Here's a news flash: covid is a virus. We have never eliminated a virus. As in the next time we eliminate a virus will be the first time. If we somehow miracled ourselves to 100% planetary vaccination level, the virus will still exist. People will still get it and some of them will die from it. Just like the flu. Somehow we have seemingly set the "everything is going to be ok" point at eliminating the virus and zero new cases. That is an utterly unattainable goal. It's not even laudable to have that goal; that's how stupid that goal would be.
The vaccines are out there. People can either get vaccinated or not. You pays your money, you takes your chances. But why should I care that people that chose not to get vaccinated are having to deal with the consequences of their choices? You do you and I'll do me.
