'Repair the Damages That Our Ancestors Experienced': Jamaica to Seek More Than $10 Billion In Reparations from Britain Over Atlantic Slave Trade
Jamaica plans to seek reparations from Britain for its role in the Atlantic slave trade in the 17th and 18th centuries.

A former British colony independent since 1962, Jamaica was a grim destination for captured Africans who were part of the slave trade conducted by both the British and the Spanish. After the native Amerindian people of the island were exterminated by the Spanish through slavery and transmitted diseases, Africans were enslaved to work on sugar cane plantations.

According to the National Library of Jamaica, about 600,000 Africans were shipped to the Caribbean nation and exploited in dire conditions as money was funneled to wealthy plantation owners living in Britain.
1600-1900's was pretty brutal all around.
Quote:

"Our African ancestors were forcibly removed from their home and suffered unparalleled atrocities in Africa to carry out forced labour to the benefit of the British Empire," she added. "Redress is well overdue." It's estimated that a total of 20 million African people were enslaved during the slave trade.

The petition will be submitted to Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and is connected to a motion filed by Jamaican lawmaker Mike Henry to seek more than $10 billion. The figure is Henry's estimate of how much slave owners were compensated when slavery was abolished in Britain in 1834 and approximately 800,000 enslaved Africans were freed. Britain only finished paying off the interest on the loan used to cover the payments to slaveholders in 2015.

Jamaica was seized from Spain by Britain in 1655 and remained a British colony for more than 300 years. Queen Elizabeth remains Jamaica's head of state, although Prime Minister Andrew Holness has said he would introduce a constitutional amendment to replace the Queen with a non-executive president as head of state.

"I am asking for the same amount of money to be paid to the slaves that was paid to the slave owners," said Henry, a member of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party.
Lizzie should bail out now.

Compare their current living standard to their respective place in Africa. If it's higher bill them the difference.

Nah, send them back to Africa to experience the "Sex for fish" culture, rampant HIV, no security, no money, nothing.

The only way to shove the toothpaste back in the tube here is for Britain to round up all descendants of slaves in Jamaica and ship them back to their African spot of origination. Restore the Amerindian population and then everyone is happy, right?

If it wasn't for Britain, the slave trade, and slavery in the Western Hemisphere would have lasted for decades longer and perhaps even into the 20th Century.

Jamaica is just looking for some free money.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I'm glad they're looking out for all those slaves that still live in Jamaica. Somebody does owe them.

Oh, what's that? The slaves have all been dead for around 150 years?

How much foreign aid and support has Jamaica received since they have been independent? From where?

As far as I am aware the British (or US for that mater) government was not involved directly in the slave trade. All slavers were either African war lords, Arab traders, merchant slave ships, Jamaican slave traders and Jamaican slave owners (including former Africans).

The British government did not pass laws to prevent the slave trade.
They did not pass laws to stop the early drug trade either, can we sue the British government for that too?

$10 billion seems pretty cheap. Settle for half on the condition they never ask again. Just print some more cash.

Jamaica can become the new St Barths, 99% White. I'm sure all of the Jamaicans will be welcomed with open arms back in Africa and it will be Wakanda Part II.

Genius move by Jamaica. UK is on the ropes right now with racial issues and accusations ironically becaues of Harry who continues to backstab the hell out of his family. He's apparently now releasing a tell all that's going to f^ck them over even more.

Britian will pay this.

That's about $3,333 per Jamaican by the way.

So when are black Americans and the left going to go after Africa for enslaving their own people and willingly taking part in the slave trade in profiting off of it for centuries?

Spain doesn't give an Eff. Their men are still actually men.

The Spanish love them some political protests and violence but, they're not the self-deprecating libs that we see here in the USA. They ain't got no time for woke guilt trips.

Don't you know how money driven lawsuits work?

You don't go after the people who are at fault.
You go after the people with the deepest pockets and hope they'll settle out of court.

I want to know when they're going to go after Disney for royalties from Pirates of the Caribbean?

Also, $10B in today's dollars doesn't seem like much.

Biden could have that much cash loaded on a C-130 and air dropped in by the end of the day. Jamaica is a lot shorter flight than Iran.

Thank goodness the mestizos did not put it together that their ancestors mined all that gold for the Spanish empire. They might have wanted a cut before it finished the voyage to Aragon, or Leon or wherever now.
