Somebody already say having a mom and a dad at home explains most of the difference me today?
Yes to the Great Society garbage and the welfare state but I'm not convinced that the War on Drugs is the second factor. Revisit the site WTF 1971. What else did Nixon pass at about that same time? The US abandoned the Gold Standard. Since then a whole lot of things have changed for the worse in the US, this is just one of them. Fiat currency was necessary to "pay" for the welfare state but the scope of society decline is so broad I have a hard time believing the War on Drugs played anywhere near the role that fiat currency played. Things you'll find on WTF 1971:titan said:
That's something was LBJ's disastrous "Great Society" and the plantation state created, followed by Nixon's asinine War on Drugs.
The greatest generation were great warriors but absolutely set us on a road to hell.LOYAL AG said:Yes to the Great Society garbage and the welfare state but I'm not convinced that the War on Drugs is the second factor. - Productivity has maintained it's rate of growth from the prior 30 years while wages have virtually flattened out.
- Top 1% has seen rapid expansion of income since mid-80's while the other 99% has seen nothing since 1971.
- Black income went from 50% of white income from 1948 to 68% 1971. Today it's 72% and hasn't been above 75%.
- Male income has flattened out since 1971 while female income has grown at a pace similar to GDP growth. This is actually probably a product of women entering the workforce en masse since 1971.
- Cumulative inflation has taken a significant turn for the worse. Looks a lot like the Global Warming hockey stick actually. As the money supply has grown it's all been eaten by inflation.
- Americans have become more focused on personal wealth to the point where it's the #1 driver in people's lives. In 1970 it was last of five.
- The number of lawyers per capita has quadrupled.
- Incarceration rate has soard.
The list goes on and on. It's a fascinating site. The US abandoning the Gold Standard set the world on a course for economic ruin which always impacts those on the bottom of the economic scale before those at the top.
Hard to argue with that. Keynesian economics is going to leave the world's economies in ruins which will ultimately lead to the biggest war humanity has ever seen as nations fight for a dwindling pool of resources. Bretton Woods brought about a significant period of stability and prosperity but it's difficult to see the current world order holding together even to the end of the current decade. The US is figuring out we don't need the current world order and China is figuring out that preserving it is critical to their ability to avoid economic collapse. The result there is we want to be more isolationist and they want to be more interventionist. IMO that can only end one way.Seriously77 said:The greatest generation were great warriors but absolutely set us on a road to hell.LOYAL AG said:Yes to the Great Society garbage and the welfare state but I'm not convinced that the War on Drugs is the second factor.
